Rant: What the hell does the man think he's doing, killing off half his cast like that?
Potential plot hole: They contacted Mr. Universe to let him know they were coming with this hot broadcast. Why not send it to him right then? In fact, considering they had to come back through Reaver territory, and might not make it, wouldn't it have been safer to send it, in case they couldn't come in person?
Watson call: How do the Reavers stay organized enough to build and run spaceships? Why don't they all murder each other? Are there female Reavers? If 10% of the population of Miranda were adversely affected by the peace-maker stuff in the air, surely some of them must have been female. So are they still around, or did the male Reavers rape them to death? In the latter case, that means the Reavers are a single-generation phenomenon; in the former--does that mean they can breed?
Yummy naked men: Mal, mmm. Simon, double-mmm.
Episode comparison: Why did the Mal's attitude towards Simon differ so greatly from the episodes? I got the impression that Simon was considered part of the crew--family, as Kaylee says. Granted, I'm still two episodes or so short--we couldn't take the suspense and went to see the movie before we'd managed to see all of them. Did Simon and Mal have some kind of falling out?
My overall impression was that this was very good, and I'm glad I saw it, but I don't think I could bear to see it again. Not for a long time, at any rate. It's too bleak, and there isn't as much comic relief as there is in the episodes. It's also just too intense. It never lets up. When it ended, I buried my face in Aaron's shoulder and shook.
I'm strongly considering doing some River costuming. Yeah, I'm a bit long in the tooth for a 17-year-old, but I have the slow walk and glassy-eyed stare down pat. Also, I can kill you with my brain.
