Today is the first time I was late to work. :( My friend was partying for his 21st birthday last night and needed someone to cover his 7am-12pm shift. He was so desperate he texted me because I mentioned I could possibly take it! I remember waking up at 6:38am and thinking it was ridiculously early. Then, I remember waking up at 7:30am and thinking oh crap, why am I not at work. :| So I came to work ~45 minutes late, boooo. But hey, we seriously do NOTHING in the morning and I could technically be sleeping on the couch right now! I also have my usual shift later today from 7pm-12am. 10 hours, two 7-12 shifts! Hopefully there is zeroooo work to do today.
BUT the real excitin' stuff happened yesterday night! So there are these underground tunnels that run throughout the campus and they start from the edge of Mesa Court (where I live). Supposedly they're haunted, but people go down there anyway! Me, Ronald, Ryan Farraro, Ryan Quach, Oliver Jan, Christine Vo, Rei Estrada, Bonnie Le, and Katherine Nguyen walked over to the entrance, which is across the street from the farthest hall in Mesa, and it was shady as hell. This dark [sewage] tunnel covered in graffiti and shady water running along the middle-bottom were what we first saw, but Oliver was just like, "LET'S GO BACK GUYS, THIS IS HELLA SCARY." Ronald, whom I have named Dark Fearless Leader, led the entire crew into these tunnels and we encountered bats, cockroaches, scorpians, and mice. There was also graffiti everywhere, some that really creeped me out such as "GO BACK NOW", "NAKED BLOODY MAN AHEAD", "SERIAL KILLER AHEAD". Yeah, at that point I just wanted to GTFO. Apparently, the exit (location unknown at this point) was a manhole somewhere in the tunnel. Vague. So we tried to open every manhole we passed by, AND NONE OF THEM WOULD OPEN. That made me even more scared because we had gone pretty far and it seemed like there was no exit for us. I was also getting really tired because some of the water flows were really wide and we had to walk like we were sumo wrestlers, and we had to stay low just in case bats decided to swoop on by. At certain times we faced forks in the road, where there were two tunnels to choose from that went a pretty long distance ahead, so we made Ronald and Farraro "recon" it by going ahead and checking it out before we all went in. All of our stalling and breaks added up and we started hearing another group coming behind us. THANK GOD they came when they did, because they pretty much saved us from missing our exit. So, people graffiti a whole bunch of stuff on the wall, including false directions (such as "TRY THIS ONE" for a manhole that did not budge and I thought someone was gonna come out and eat Ronald). There was an arrow that said "MIDDLE EARTH" pointing to a tunnel that went uphill and involved fob-squat walking the entire way. Our stranger-friends told us to go that way, and since we all wanted to GTFO, we took the chance and believed them. I mean, they could've been crazy killers planning their escape route! But they weren't. So, they told us to listen to the Middle Earth arrow and we found an open manhole that led to Ronald's hall! Like, right in front of it, it was kind of funny. We took pictures with our stranger friends (who ended up being a nerdy bunch with lights on their hats and whatnot) and all went home to take showers and be clean and sleep.
I AM ALIVE GUYS, YAY!
And if any of you ever visit me or Ronald, we will glady take you to these tunnels if you wish. :) Now that we know where we're going...
