New Mexico Sky--June 2008
Wrote this on the drive out last summer, then used it with my American Literature classes today. One of my graduate professors said that she thinks it helps the students a great deal when you share your own writing with them...we will see :-).

The broad expanse a gray-white drape across the sky
Long velvet ropes of polar caps on desert dry
Mesas of boldened clay drag heavy lines
Across the landscape marked by time's red wine.
