Joxer sat in Bliss's kitchen with a small lunch in front of him. He'd found the newest parchment in his bag in the morning; however, he hadn't had the chance to really look at it until now. Opening up the scroll, Joxer nearly dripped it right back onto the table. Oh yes, the Gods really did have a thing with playing with his mind; this was one ( Read more... )

"Okay, so, that can't be good," said Iolaus as he wandered into the kitchen in time to see Joxer's expression. "If it's that bad, you don't have to eat it. You're not going to offend anyone."

"It wasn't the food." But yes, he looked completely disgusted, "I got another one of those questions... you know the ones that show up almost weekly?"

At Iolaus's questioning look, "Betrayal... have you or have you been betrayed..."

"Who hasn't?" He sat down at the table and took an apple out of the fruit bowl centerpiece. "Don't those mystery scrolls of yours ever ask anything fun? Seems to me like they're always pretty gloomy." He also wondered if Joxer wanted to talk about his answer this one but didn't want to pry.

"Yeah, we all have been, but you don't like thinking about it." He sat back at the table and started rubbing at the ink stain with his finger, "Not that I've seen lately.. this is just screwed up."

"You don't have to open them, you know. Maybe you should just pitch the next one in the fire."

"Last time I ignored them, two more showed up in it's place... then another... and another... someone wants my opinion... for some unknown reason. Not like it mattered much before..."

"Apparently it matters now." He took a bite of the apple and munched thoughtfully. "You know, it sounds like the sort of thing that should happen to Gabrielle. I mean, she's the bard and she really gets into the whole writing thing." He munched some more. "Or maybe . . . do you think they could be coming from Gabrielle?"

"Oh Gods... I hope not. There are things on those scrolls I really really don't want Gabrielle to see..." Rubbing his face with his hands and growning. "OF course, she wouldn't speak to me again after seeing some of it too..."

"She'd get over it," he said, turning to toss the apple core across the room where it landed in the waste can. "She's pretty understanding, you know. Especially if you give her a little time to get over it."

"She's rather intolerent of the gods though... and I know she'd hate some of my answers, things she wouldn't get ovr it very quickly... if ever."

"You can't please everyone all of the time," said Iolaus, leaning back in his chair. "But she might have an idea where these mystery scrolls of yours are coming from."

Shruging, "To be honest, I haven't even seen her in... well... since before the whole ring thing..." Joxer looked a bit sheepish about that still, "So maybe things have changed..."

"To be honest, I can't remember the last time I saw Gabrielle. Or Xena for that fact. A year at least." He offered Joxer an encouraging smile. "A lot can change in a year."

"Yeah... look at me." He quirked Iolaus a grin, he'd changed a great deal in the past year.

"Look at you," he nodded with a warm smile. "Gabrielle will surprised when she sees you again. And impressed. Xena and Herc too, I'll bet. You've come a long way."

"And I don't drop my sword or trip over my own feet half as much." Though he still did at times. He was still refusing to see a doctor about it, because he was scared what the results would be.
