So... the kind of days you get where you weren't expecting to be rocked off your feet nearly as hard as you were? That was today. Or rather, yesterday. I hate time zones. Tell ya what. That was 12/18/2009 -> 12/19/2009, from about 5:30 PM to about now.
Starting off the awesome sauce, parents took me out to Morton's Steakhouse for my graduation. This is the only place I've ever eaten where I get a buzz off of the food. @.@ It didn't disappoint. I put down a double-cut filet mignon and their absolutely amazing chocolate lava cake, as well as a mojito. This alone would make a day special.
After Morton's, got home, and enjoyed my mini-food coma by watching Serenity in Bluray with my family. Right (and I mean right) after that, drove out to Tinseltown to see Avatar in 3D with
artic_dragoness,
tetsusaiga1370,
the_dragon_mage, Artic's wifey, B_Bat, Joe, and Lar. We waited about an hour in the life to the specific showing room (due to having to reschedule to 10:35 PM, the 9:45 PM show was canceled due to technical difficulties), and got our seats.
Holy shit. o.o
Firstly, it's 2009, and it's nice that they've finally got a decent 3D experience going. This isn't that crappy blue/red tint effect... they use two differently polarized lenses, and offset the picture accordingly. It actually works, and despite the film being 3 hours of this, I didn't get a headache from eyestrain, nor nausea from problems with the effect.
Secondly, I think this is the first film I've seen digitally. It's nice not to have the grainy film look, and see things smoothly. That made me happy just from not having little white specs pop up during the movie.
Thirdly... alright, so the plot's been done before. This was -amazingly- executed as a movie. The details, the vistas, the sheer amount of eye candy just overwhelms... and then keeps on overwhelming. This is one of those movies that I got my Bluray player for my computer for. It was just. so. pretty. It didn't suffer from being too flashy (Speed Racer), and the alien characters were... realistic, without suffering that 'uncanny valley' problem that I've seen in the past.
I just... @.@ Days like today are what help remind me why I suffer in school, and some of the spoils I can expect when I get out.
Oh, speaking of... I almost forgot. X3 I graduated, Thursday. I officially have a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. Now to go another year and get my Masters.
I <3 all my friends and family. Just... <3 all around. :3
