So, we chilled at Mike's house for the last two weeks. I bought a car about a week ago. It's a green Volkswagen Golf, 1996. It has a sunroof, power locks, an alarm system, it's 5 speed... I love it. I have named her Jasmine. I am very happy.
Me and Joe went looking for apartments the other day. It was kind of discouraging. We walked around Lankershim in North Hollywood for the first day, but it was apparently the 4th of July, and managers are never around on the 4th of July.
The next day, we walked around Van Nuys and tried to look at apartments, but, again, there were no manager's to be found except in one apartment building. The woman who showed us that apartment was very nice, and so was the apartment, but it was out of our price range at 1k for a one bedroom. That is actually pretty cheep, but still out of our price range. By only 100$... which made us sad. It had a fire place too. *sad face*
So we walked down to the Starbucks we had seen to see if we had any luck there. They told us to come back so Joe could talk to the manager about his situation on Monday. We went across the street to see an apartment building we had somehow over looked. It was covered in signs about move in specials, and customer service, and pet friendly etc. I was getting a really really optimistic good feeling just looking at it. The whole area there just gave me a really good feeling. I felt kind of at home, and I had never been there before. So we found our way to the leasing office (which was the only leasing office so far that had huge inviting signs), and walked in. We were greeted very nicely by the woman who would be showing us the apartment.
The room she showed us was small, but nice. It kind of made me worry a little bit about how much room we would have for a fold out couch... so, tiny. But it had a full kitchen, sans dishwasher, but oh well, and it had a ceiling fan. The complex as a whole was very nice. It had a huge pool, a big jacuzzi, a good sized gym, a bbq area, and a business center with internet. Pretty nice. So we asked her how much. $899. One dollar under our budget. We figured this was a sign. We said we like it, but we still need to look around.
There were so many signs that pointed to this place, it's not even funny, I mean, if you believe in the whole "sign" thing.
1. There was a Starbucks across the street.
2. In the same shopping center as the starbucks, there was a deli called "Lia's Kitchen".
3. The cross street on one side of the apartment building was Orion Ave. (my cat's name)
4. It was one block from both the 405 and the 101.
5. EVERYTHING we need was in walking distance.
Anyway, if you don't believe in signs, those are all still pretty compelling reasons to get it.
So today, we went back to look again, since nothing else caught our collective eye in the meantime. The room she had shown us was being looked at by someone else, but she had another she could show us. This new one was same square footage as the other, but the way it was laid out made it look bigger, and perhaps the living room area was actually bigger, but I walked in and loved it. I was running around, and felt at home. I was flipping switches and opening doors and stuff. The bathroom has a HUGE closet, and the doors for the closet are HUGE mirrors. This makes for a happy Lia. The sink area is separated from the bath and toilet area by a door, so someone can use the sink and mirrors while someone is bathing or... on the toilet. It's nice. Plush carpets.. umm... It's got a fair amount of room... oh! AND A DECK!!!! This is very nice. SO we told her we wanted it, and we are now in the process of getting it. We filled out the applications today, and we are turning them in tomorrow.
Also, Joe got a job today. We went back to the starbucks, and talked to the Assistant Manager. He put Joe on the schedule for two weeks from now, since that's the duration of a schedule. Joe might also be able to pick up shifts before then. Things are going very very well.
Now I need a job... and to register my car (oops), and activate my insurince... and... other things I can't think of at the moment.
Oh crap. I meant to call Tony Munroe today... Oh well, I'll do that tomorrow.
Anyway, that's the long and short of it.
