I saw the absolute worst band ever last night.
Section 8 sucked balls, 2 bands got mysteriously added to the bill each taking 30 minutes to set their shit up, and then 30 minutes to get it the fuck off the stage. I was crying, Erin was sleeping with her head on a monitor, and I'm pretty sure that Marisa was puking. Johnny was considering eating shit out of my ass, and it seemed like a good deal because I didn't want to give up my supreme front row spot to go take a shit. Better judgment ensued.... Um so yep from 8pm until 11:45pm I feeling feeling like I wanted to shoot myself in the face, god fucking dammit the opening bands sucked. The 4th band put down their set list and I counted 12 songs, I let Erin know, and then we both started crying. The singer came out looking like a total hippie, and I was like oops, what have I gotten myself into? But then holy fuck, they started playing and we're fucking killing it. The drummer was wearing a Kid Dynamite shirt, the singer looked like he was desperately trying to look like a mix of the singer from Avail, and the singer from Strike Anywhere. The bass player was rocking a Music Man bass with the classic music man punk-bass sound... so you can guess what they sounded like, and it was really rad, tons of dudes and dudettes were stage diving on top of me, and it was cool. The set went by relatively fast and pretty much saved the show from being a total pile of shit. Fuck, the band is called New Tomorrow (I didn't ask if it was inspired by Screeching Weasel), check them out. Strung Out finally started playing at 12:30 and played until 1:40am-ish. They played way better than the last time I saw them, and I had tons of fun because me and Erin were squashed up in the front together singing along to all the songs. There was this super lame chick right behind me that was doing a non-stop pogo, and I pretty much was having the best gay sex of my life from her until (thank the lord) she finally got pushed down the line. I was standing right in front of Rob (He was using the white Fernandez guitar through a 5150 with a crate cab) so I pretty much got to see enough shredding guitar to last me 2 years. I came to a few new conclusions about Strung Out: They are waaay too good, Jason IS hotter than Jake when they are sweaty, Jake shreds more than Rob, Jordan looks like a serial killer, and Erin looks super cute when she's watching them play. They ended with "Bark at the Moon" as part of an encore, and the dueling solos made my brain hurt. The show ended just before 2am and then we got in the car to bail home. I averaged 85-110mph the whole way home and it only took me 2 hours to get back home. We got back home at 4am and got a siick 5 hours of sleep before I had to go to work, and Erin had to shoot over to San Jose State for school. After work, me and Evan jammed out a few songs from the new Abhorrance record... watch out.... gotta stay away from all those pancakes. The 2 Erins' birthdays are coming up, be ready. Static Rev will be playing a low key show in May with... CRAIGS BROTHER! -who we'll also be playing in Monterey with. In June we will be playing a few out of town shows, and possibly a local show. Our deadline for the release of the new Abhorrance full length is June. We will be setting up an epic cd-release show. Stay rad. Eat pancakes.. I'll see you at the beach.
