But honestly, he has an extreme intellect. He builds inventions out of the scraps he finds, and powers them all through severely ad-hoc, if not EXTREMELY dangerous, methods.
His intelligence is also displayed in the fact that he is a young adult but it doesn't look like he has ever attended any schooling beyond high school. So he has had to grasp and understand many of the scientifickery things he does ON HIS OWN.

Flint is from Swallow Falls, a tiny tiny island under the C in Caribbean. He’d always been an out cast, trying to invent things which always failed in spectacular ways. After his most recent failure, Rat Birds, he received a letter from Mickey, asking him to join the staff at Disney Academy.
Not wanting to face the constant rejection from his hometown of Swallow Falls any longer, he decides to leave his home behind.

Personality: Flint is a creative, mad scientist level genius. From the age of young child he has desired to create great things and invent things which could help people. However, he doesn't think in conventional means at all, he is much more likely to create something which, while inventive, isn't useful at all: I.E. Rat birds and remote controlled television (The... walking type). And while he is a genius, and can create plans or come up with ideas on a whim, they often aren't thought out at all, leading to disasters for all the problems which he did not predict.
He desires the acceptance of others above all else. He is easily manipulated with a few choice words and a bit of encouragement. That's what makes his relationship with his father so strained; his father simply does not know how to encourage in a conventional sense. Therefore he is willing to put aside his father's warnings at even the most insincere acceptance of the town which previously rejected him.
He is also a bit of a showman, though it appears he doesn't even need an audience to show off. It isn't about having a huge ego, its rather more about making it it flashy and "cool". He wants people to see how awesome his creations and inventions are.
Greatest Fear: Fishing metaphor Though he does desire and want the acceptance of everyone around him, his greatest fear isn't complete and total rejection. He suffers from that every day of his life. His real greatest fear seems to be if one of his insane inventions actually did hurt people.
