As I drove into work today I was stopping in town to do a little shopping to continue the many Christmas activities. .. A beautiful song came on the air that I have much loved... "Where's the Line to see Jesus"? As I fought back tears in the beauty of the song, I came upon a homeless man on the corner with a sign about being homeless and hungry. Often in such instances I will grab a $5 bill or a $15 gift card that I often keep in my purse... today I only had $20 bills and gently reached to give him one... as I handed it to him the look on his face was priceless as he repeatedly said, "God Bless you maam, God bless you."... Now I know cities often discourage such handouts for fear of encouraging folks to stand on the corner and/or in the fears it will fund the purchase of drugs or alcohol. ... Yet those perhaps those may be very real concerns, I too have known so many homeless persons with mental illness, and/or folks who were layed off and lost their homes that have not been able to find adequate social services to meet their needs. ... As I drove away tears came in the thoughts of the true meaning of Christmas, the gift of Jesus, the gift of love. May we all remember God's beautiful gift. ...
I share today the beautiful song, written and often sung by Steve Haupt and his daughter Becky Kelley.. Becky's version has been an international hit.... who would have thought that Steve's young 4 year old grandson in an innocent question when standing in line to see Santa asked, "are we in line to see Jesus?".. would inspire such a beautiful song...
Lyrics
Christmas time was approaching,
Snow is starting to fall,
Shoppers choosing their presents,
People filling the mall.
Children waiting for Santa,
With excitement and glee,
A little boy tugged my sweater,
Looked up and asked me.
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
It’s Christmas time, it’s His birthday.
Why don’t we see Him more?
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents.
But Christ gave His life for me.
As I stood in amazement,
At this message profound,
I looked down to thank him,
he was nowhere around.
Little boy at the mall,
Might as well have had wings,
As the tears filled my eyes,
but I heard him sing.
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
It’s Christmas time, it’s His birthday.
Why don’t we see Him more?
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents.
But Christ gave His life for me.
In the blink of an eye,
at the sound of His trump,
We’ll all stand in line at His throne.
Every knee shall bow down,
every tongue will confess,
that Jesus Christ is Lord
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
It’s Christmas time, it’s His birthday.
Why don’t we see Him more?
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents.
But Christ gave His life for me
