Forgotten Things Remembered

Shivering she pulled the jacket tighter around her and upped the volume on her MP3 player; hoping that the music would chase away the coldness. She wasn’t sure why she was back here, sitting watching the people walk back and forth from the Millennium Centre.

Ever since that day when she’d woken to find herself in an hospital bed with no memory of the last two weeks. Everyone had tried to help her, telling her what she’d told them. But it didn’t matter; she still couldn’t remember a damn thing.

It was only after she’d been released and had been taken off the sleeping aids (apparently she’d been screaming when they’d first brought her in) that she started dreaming again. At first it was just washes of colours greys, blues and blacks before they changed.

Soon she was seeing long coats, suits and ties which ended up plaguing her dreams. But no matter how hard she tried, her mind wouldn’t supplement any more images. That’s when she’s started hanging out down the bay for hours at a time. Hoping that someone would recognise her and tell her what had happened.

But no one did, no one came to her, no one talked to her and sometimes no one even looked at her.

Sighing she shifted on her cold seat, her fingers drumming out the time to the Linkin Park song on her legs. Evening was drawing in and she was thinking about heading home; her family would only complain if she was late. Something out the corner of her eye made her stop from getting to her feet. Turning her head, she realized that she recognized the coat that happened to be walking past her.

She held her breath, the music pounding in time with her heart. She watched as the man in the coat broke into a jog, her eyes following as she saw him catch up with another man just past the water tower; a man dressed in a suit none the less!

Her hands stopped tapping against her leg as the song turned to a quieter one. She wanted to go over, to say something to them, to ask them exactly what had happened. But she was stuck sitting; something deep inside of her telling her that she didn’t need to know. Just knowing that her dreams were partly true eased the blankness inside her mind.

She watched as the two men seemed to get caught up in an argument. The man in the suit shaking his head vehemently while the coated man seemed to be gesturing to something over his shoulder. She couldn’t help smiling slightly as she saw the suited man starting to give in.

But she wasn’t prepared to see two men kiss out in the open, she couldn’t help blushing and giggling quietly to herself. I guess they settled their arguments then, she thought not being able to look away.

She noticed that the kiss seemed to put a stop to the men’s earlier argument.

Ah well at least it was a happy ending to the day. Even if I still don’t know exactly what happened to me.
