Yuletide 2017 Assignment(s)

Jan 06, 2018 19:17

As always I had a blast writing for the Yuletide Challenge this year My assigned recipient

Lilliburlerowrote such a great letter full of delicious prompts that I ended up writing two stories in the David Blaize fandom because I couldn't choose which idea I liked best!

By Any Other Name (3,400 words)
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: David Blaize
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: George “Bags” Crabtree/David Blaize (canonical one-sided crush)
Characters: George “Bags” Crabtree, David Blaize, Original Characters (Crabtree family)
Tags: Unrequited Crush, Canon Compliant Canon, Jewish Character, Original Character(s)
Summary: George Crabtree is more than “Nanny” or “Bags” or anything else he’s been called.

Notes: My recipient Lilliburleo wrote a delightful letter full of great prompts and one of them was about George’s Jewish heritage which had been mentioned and then glossed over in canon. Coming from an interfaith household myself I really identified with Bags in the canon which makes this one of the most personal stories I’ve ever written.

Once More With Feeling (2,547 words)
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: David Blaize
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: N/A
Characters: The Monarch of the Glen, Missus The Monarch, David Blaize, George “Bags” Crabtree
Tags: Magical Realism, Fluff and Crack, Character Death Fix
Summary: Every once in a while a human comes into the world endowed with magic. What is not so well known that the same is true for many other creatures. Which is not entirely surprising to anyone who has known a particularly witchy cat or abnormally lucky raven. Yet magic persists even in animals outside the familiar scope of familiars. For example, it is not unheard of for insects to be magical.

Such as the magnificent stag beetle.

Notes: The protagonist David has a pair of stag beetles early in the book that have some drama surrounding them. One of my recipient’s prompts was a fix-it fic for the beetles and I immediately thought it would be fun to make them a wee bit magical.
