Sending Jou a package? Post a picture of your gift and leave a note here! Hopefully he'll remember to check for the missed delivery slip if he's not there to sign for it!

The package would arrive late on Friday -- a small box containing a tiny blanket crocheted in silky pink yarn. There are two envelopes inside on top, one marked to Jou, the other to Rie in very careful hiragana, as though the writer had held her pen very stiffly to avoid making a mistake.

In Jou's: Jou-san, I hope this blanket will be a good choice for your patient. I hope that she does not have too many blankets already! Please continue to let us know of her progress?

I am certain also that this time must also be very stressful for you. What great responsibility, helping to bring a baby into this world. The care with which you speak of Rie-san, however, shows your dedication and your compassion to her. With even just these traits, I think you have come to a level of doctor that some unfortunately never understand. It is admirable.

Be well, Jou-san.

In Rie's: Rie-san, you have never met me, so it must be very strange to you to receive a package from me. I have heard about you, however, from Jou-san, who has always spoken of you with great care and dedication. I could not help but to send you this gift, and I hope that you will accept it. As the Japanese say, "It was a feeling."

Jou-san has said that you enjoy hearing about the Digital World, the Chosen, and the digimon. I am a Chosen like Jou-san, though from India, and my partner is Bakumon. I would include a picture of him, but he is very difficult about the camera and starts making horrible faces every time that I try to take a photograph. He resembles a little of a tapir (I think this is the correct word?) if you have seen one. His back feet are a trailing of mist or smoke. He can sometimes be very difficult, but I have come to rely on him perhaps even more than I realize. I think perhaps that the bond between most Chosen and their partners are similar; they are an extention of the self, even if we are not always similar in personality.

Bakumon and I are from Patna, though I am studying currently here in Japan. I think that Bakumon would prefer to be in India again, but he will not leave me, either. (And secretly I am happy for this.) I am a student of computer engineering/programming.

Very rarely I have been to the Digital World, so I cannot tell you much, but from what I have seen, the world is very lovely. I hope someday to see it again.

I must unfortunately finish this letter, but I wish you well, Rie-san. I will look forward to hearing that all was well and that you and your baby are happy together.

Best wishes,

Mina Das
