Indeed. I see myself as quite a Lyrical Master, so I jump at opportunities like this! [Maybe I should be more careful in the future. ;) -Ed.]
1. Hmmmmmm. Not starting on a good note. Sounds like an Alt. Rock line, but it doesn't ring any bells. Feels like it could be familiar, but it isn't. Guess I'll have to pass... 2. Crawling! The Hoobastank version, of course. 3. Mm, another unfamiliar one. But with the rather unique line "Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity," I'm pretty sure I've never heard this. 4. *ducks his head, passes* 5. Ah, finally, home territory again. Dashboard Confessional, mmm, Screaming Infidelities. And it's "I knew [you] were." I like their new CD. 6. ...I feel like I should know these lyrics. Not because they are familiar, but because I nod at them, fall quiet. 7. Dolphins Cry! By Tonic. I really like this song. It's got a good tune, and the lyrics are pretty good as well. 8. ...no? Doesn't ring any bells. 9. For a second there, I could hope it was a song in half-Quenya (elvish) and half-Latin. I'm wrong. And I can't tell if I know it. 10. Sadly, I've never heard this song either. But it reminds me of Anthem of our Dying Day by Story of the Year. "...From up here, the city lights burn, like a thousand miles of fire..."
Well, well. I should have kept quiet, it seems. ....ah hah! But as a little research shows, I was only wrong on one account: #8. I -have- heard this song, but never could make out the lyrics. Listening and reading the lyrics at the same time sheds new light on the song.
Otherwise, I'm kicking myself over #1, since that's one of my favorite bands. I've just never heard a copy of this played. Yet. I'm going to fix that. And yes, I am a fan of Queen! But I haven't heard as wide a breadth of their songs as other bands.
So that concludes the attack of the Mysterious Lyrical Master. I will now resume humming and singing off-key to my roommate's music. 'night!
