More show reviews! Mt. Erie
Oh how sad. Lil and I went to see The Microphones/Mount Erie a little while ago. I was really excited! I really love the Song Islands album and a few others are quite good. I haven't much cared for the more recent Mount Erie stuff as it's not the same kind of noisy lo-fi craziness and just more folky. I was picturing a mess of people on stage making all sorts of good noise and Phil Elvrum singing over all of it. Instead, it was just him and his guitar and his voice. And he didn't really do any of the songs I like. Very disappointing!!! Oh well. Now I can add seeing the Microphones when they were a band to my list of things I would do with a time machine. He did lots of funny curtseying after each song to indicate the song was over has his songs tend to end very abruptly. It was just good enough that I didn't feel it was a waste of my time but I felt bad that I had dragged Lil along. Such is life. On the positive side, the show was also doubling as the CD release for p:ano's new album. They are probably the cutest band I have ever seen. I'm sure that your Canadian music media will be assaulting you with them in the near future so I'll let you judge for yourself.
