The Josscars F.A.Q.
The_Josscars? What's that?
- The Josscars is a BTVS/ATS Role Playing Awards Community.
An Awards Community? But aren't there other Award communities out there?
- Yes there are. There is josscars_weekly, golden_joss, slayerchoiceaim, and barpg_awards.
However all of those award communities are character based. They select a character, and ask for nominations based on people who play that character. Then based on samples you vote for the best portrayal of that character. At the_josscars, we have taken away the limitations of character roles, and are treating the characters as actors. No longer asking the Buffys and Angels of the game to compete against each other.
Wait? Not Character Categories? Why not?
- Well as you can see there are a number of places that you can go and vote of character variations. In fact we even run josscars_weekly, however we didn't want to have another community that puts the Buffy Players all together in one category.
Okay, so they aren't all in the same category. How does that work?
- First we see that each RPG game can be compared to a movie, or a TV show. The plot is ever evolving and the characters and their part in that game is changing too. One month the game could be revolving around a side character and the plot that they are involved in. Thus putting them front and center in the game. They have more to do plot wise, and more to post in terms of writing.
By removing the character categories we can now showcase that one character easier, without waiting for their character category to arrise. Smaller roles that never get character categories, like the Tuckers, and Sam Finns of the RPG World will get a chance to be seen amongst the Cordelia's and Giles players.
Okay, I get that. So what are the categories then?
- We have taken most of the categories from The Oscars, and simply adapted them to the RPG Universe.
Best Lead Actor//Actress
Best Supporting Actor//Actress
Best Director // Moderator
Best Original Screenplay // AU BASED (Completely Original)
Best Adapted Screenplay // Seasonal - Episodic Based
Best Score (Musical or Comedy) // Song Fiction Post
Best Score (Dramatic) // Song Fiction Post
Best Short Film // Solo Post ( no replies )
Wait... how does that work? I mean my game is both Buffy and Angel?
- Each category up there is divided into two seperate casts. There are two sets of those categories, on for characters that were based in the Buffy Universe and one for characters that were based in the Angel Universe.
So what about OC Characters?
- OC Characters should be placed where ever the player things that they fit best. If their OC was more likely to come from the Buffy Universe then they go there, Angel Universe then there.
So okay, I have characters that I want to nominate how do I do that?
- Well we want the nomination to mean as much as a win at the_josscars. If you want to nominate someone from one of your games, suggest it to the moderator of the game. Either via E-mail, AIM, or a Members Locked post to the OOC.
What? I can't just nominate people?
- No. This is no longer character based it is game//plot based nominations. The nominations that you give to us should come from the members of the game. Everyone from your game should agree on the nominations, and the moderator should post them in the appropriate nomination post at josscar_noms.
So how many nominations does the game get then?
- Each game is allowed 3 nominations per category. Which means you can nominate 3 Lead Buffy Cast Females, 3 Lead Buffy Cast Males, 3 Supporting Buffy Cast Males, 3 Supporting Buffy Cast Females, and another set for the Angel Cast. If you use up all your nominations you should be submitting 12 Buffy Nominations and 12 Angel Nominations. That is 24 Nominations, meaning that most players in your game should be covered. As well as the game and scene categories.
So how do we decide what goes in what category?
- As games progress and plot evolves each character gets their turn playing a larger role in the game. Get feedback from other players within the game as to who has been playing a "Lead" Role in the plot, and who has been "Supporting" that role. We hope that each month the characters will be nominated in different categories.
Well I am in 5 games? Can I be nominated for all of them?
- Yes! Please get all of the games that you are involved in to submit their nominations. When the winners are announced you will win for the actual scene and game that was voted on, so your win will be more specific. Instead of winning, "Best Cordelia" or "Best Giles" you will win, "Best Lead Buffy Actress in Which Witch is Witch played by, Willow at Willows_world" This award is more specific and not only showcases the player, but the plot that they were involved in and the game.
