Hiya all!
Ivy's going in to have her inguinal hernia fixed on thursday morning, eeeeeek!I'm terrified and trying not to think about it already! Does anyone have any advice for coping themselves until the surgery, and while the surgery is happening most importantly! And afterwards I guess, I'm assuming they'll give her some kind of pain relief?? Wish I'd asked these things at the consult, meh! Never mind!
Also, as she's having a general anastethic (sp?) she has to fast beforehand, does anyone have any tips for making that less painful for her?
Thanks in advance, hope you're all well

Thanks for the reply hannah, that's really helpful! I will defo phone her outreach nurse in the morning now and fingers crossed I can give her a bit of something take the edge off!! She is starting to cheer up a little tho, apart from being wide awake right now... Yeah it is hyperbilirubanaemia (sp?) She has too, and urso is among the many things she has, seemed the day surgery nurses had never heard of any of it. I did say that ivy has had paracetamol before, when she's had her jabs and such, the dr on the unit had given it to her a couple of times. Fingers crossed eh?? I'll ask about the Reflux meds too, always good ve get a recommendation! Hope you have a lovely christmas! X

Thanks all! Ivy's surgery went well and mercifully quickly, taking my 2 year old kept me very distracted which helped. We did have to stay overnight as she was considered an anastethic risk, and they had real trouble finding room for us at such short notice! Ivy is still really grumpy, it seems to have made her Reflux worse, though perhaps that's just coincidence. Or maybe her belly is sore I suppose, she's grumpy anyway, won't be put down without much moaning. The wound is quite swollen, and while we've been told to take the dressing off now I'm worried that I should replace it... Neurotic? Moi? Just wish I could cheer her up, we can't even give her paracetamol cos of her jaundice :( poor mite! Does anyone know how long it should take for her to cheer up a bit? And how long til the swelling goes down? I'm sort of assuming it'll take about a week to settle but will hurt for quite a while, purely off the back of my c-section experience so am I way off the mark? Anyway, hope you're all well! Merry christmas! Xxx

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply! It's really good to hear from other mum's who've been and done it already, appreciate the advice!
Tyra, thanks for the detailed reply, luckily our hospital's nosh is really good, and Ivy was there for 100days so I suspect she may prefer their perspex fishbowl cots to her moses basket anyway! I will bear in mind and take stuff for overnight just in case, though we're expecting to be out the same day, fingers crossed.
Hannah I cannot imagine how horrid it must've been to watch your son go into that same theatre, you're a very brave mum. Thankyou for sharing your experience, appreciate it. The whole family is going, me, hubby and my toddler, so I'm sure that will keep me busy during the surgery. We're lucky that they'll let us bring Violet to wait, can't imagine me and hubby having to chose who goes in and who has to wait at home. I was in enough of a state when I was kicked off the ward so they could take Ivy off the ventilator!! and that was only 20 minutes!
You're all such brave mums, having to do this more than once, or for 6.5 hours, eeek! thank you all for sharing with me, will let you know how little Ivy gets on, you're right nikki, it's just one day, this time next week it should be all done. Sure Ivy is much braver than me!!
