so Thursday morning happened, the ladies all went off to get their hair done, the men ran around south london like mad men, and we all got home and got changed, just in time for the rest of our lives... Derm saved the day by being the point of contact at home, sorting out the madness and flowers and just being a general lifesaver... I know I'd have gone insane had he not been around (everyone kept asking if I was alright when I was trying to stay calm and get ready....) so I owe Derm a LOT. It was a mad mad morning.. the cab arrived early, and we all jumped in and got to the registry office 40 minutes early... so we went for a glass of water (I couldn't face anything else) and headed back, just in time for me to walk in, see Shaun and promptly burst into tears, cause he looked so lovely. He knew why I was crying and my sister got me a hanky and we hugged then headed to the waiting area, which was lovely. Me and Shaun had our meeting with the registrar, checking our information and just being really helpful. My hair was amazing btw. I didn't say that before. I looked a proper lady, the hair made everything else look better and I had my head held VERY high.
So my dad walked me up the aisle, the service itself I remember very little apart from it was quick and lovely and the room was a great room, Derm's reading was fantastic, and almost made Shaun cry, I was grinning from ear to ear, and it was just such a great great time! Everyone assembled on the steps outside the registry office, and we walked out to a shower of confetti (my mum got a bit excited and tripped up the steps) and onto the Kings Road, the classic car pulled up, and Anton interviewed us for the video, got tons of photos and we drove off, heading to the pub in Dulwich, which looked fantastic and summery and blossom-y and just great! People kept staring in the car and congratulating us (very not london behaviour) and workmen looked in inqusitively trying to see, then giving the thumbs up....
it was weird. we were the centre of attention, and yet all the dreads I had prior to this weren't there... it was really nice, like, I looked and felt like a princess and people looked to see who we were cause it was the curiosity.. it wasn't the whole "ignore them cause they're famous" it was the acknowledge them cause they're happy and may well have the most coolest car in South London at this point in time... fantastic!
we got to the pub well before everyone else (cue more people looking through the windows) and eventually everyone arrived in their black cabs, and we headed out to the back conservatory area for some more photos and drinks and food and speeches, and just anything and everything that's appropriate... it was lovely!
then it was time to head upstairs for the evening do, which the very very fantastic Steven, Morna, Natasja and Leah had all set up, and the room looked fantastic! Sparkly things everywhere and helium balloons and streamers and happiness in general... I was so happy! Anton and Sarah set up the decks while we just relaxed and got ready for people to arrive!
we got a good crowd - the room was just nicely full - think we catered for about 40 people, and we had a little food left, there was probably around 70 people there maybe? but it was just right.... at some point we cut the cake, my sister insisted that we dance on our own (and the song just happened to be The Cure's Lovecats) and we just had fun.... I wish I'd been more drunk, although I was happy - s0 so happy...
at around 10.45 a cab came to collect us (he called my mobile, whch was a bit silly cause it was of course switched off) and took us to the amazing Montcalm hotel near Marble Arch - where we found out we'd been upgraded, to a SUITE!!!! and boy was it just.... it had TWO FLOORS!! downstairs was a comfy sitting room type area, with a fax machine I was very VERY tempted to use, upstairs had a lovely bed, and posh bathroom.... so we sat downstairs drinking champagne and opening our cards.... people are soooo lovely! I have a mental note of who has given what, and it was just fantastic! so we had baths and I let my hair down (approx 150 hair clips held it all in) and we settled down to our first night as husband and wife...
