Ratarded

We have a family of rats that live in the cactus in the back yard. Normally they don't bother us and we don't bother them. However, I think one of them snuck in while Chris was grilling on the back porch.

We were watching a movie after dinner and the room was dark when I thought I saw movement on the living room floor. I told Chris I saw a rat but I didn't expect him to go after it. Much less, grab it by the tail! It ran across the floor into the corner and stuck his face in the corner. Like if he couldn't see us, we couldn't see him. lol. Silly thing. Chris tried to pick him up but his tail was slippery and he dropped it. Not once but three times. Eeee! And me with my crutches and knee brace, post-surgery, hobbling around doing all of nothing to help. It must have looked pretty comical.

Just when we thought it had probably gotten away, Chris found it hiding in a super secret spot ... behind the curtain of the sliding glass door. I did mention that this rat wasn't particularly smart? He was pretty small for a rat so maybe he was just too young to know better. Chris tried to open the door to shoo him out but he ran for the book case. Then Chris grabbed on of those extendo-claw reaching tools and grabbed the rat around the ribcage. Once he as in the claw, he just froze.

Chris opened the door and let him go outside. It played possum for a for a few minutes but when he went back outside to check on him, the little guy was long gone. I imagine him regaling his friends with tales of "the claw" back home, not unlike the Toy Story aliens. hehe

He was a cute little guy but not very smart and it's definitely not cute when they try to come in the house!

Lesson learned. The door stays closed while we're grilling from now on! And Chris is my hero once again for expelling the rat before he grew up and became a real nuisance.

home, rat, chris
