Blueberry
I watched this movie over the weekend. It's "loosely" based on a comic book called "Blueberry" by Moebius. I guess that name was too far-fetched for American audiences so they gave it the crap B-movie western name RENEGADE. The only reason I rented this is because Vincent Cassell was in it and I loved him in BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF. So glad I did!
Chris and I watch all kinds of unusual films but this is one we had to sit and chat about afterward to figure out what we thought it meant. I love movies like that. I don't think was quite as enamored as I was because the plot wasn't obvious to him until we talked it through. Could have been the result of him drifting off during the hallucination ;) But I think if you know the "bad guy" is a soul stealer, it helps. At least that was my interpretation of what was going on. I'd be curious to hear other theories if anyone else here risks a viewing.
I've never tried Peyote, Ayahuasca or DMT but it seems to me that this movie is probably a pretty good simulation. The hallucination scene lasted a little too long for someone just trying to watch the movie but it was so stunning that I really didn't mind.
Several of the psychedelic hallucination scenes are edited together in this clip, dubbed with music. It's long but worth a glimpse. It's beautiful and terrifying all at once. Neat stuff.
