Our weekend ski/snowboard trip was fab. I met a whole slew of new people. Jason and Allison are super sweet. Looking forward to more trips in the very near future. It started dumping on Saturday afternoon right after we left the slopes. By Sunday morning there was over a foot of snow and the forecast was for a LOT more. Since Zoe is a beginner, I thought powder might be a little too challenging for her. Plus, the flat runs I was riding with her would have been a nightmare for me on a snowboard. You need a little speed to get through it. The responsible thing to do was to drive home. Especially since my CR-V is 2WD. I thought it would kill me.
I was severely depressed by the time I got home. It wasn't easy to leave with all that fresh powder. Coming home to dump reports of an excess of 3 feet of fresh snow didn't help either. *sigh*
We listened to The DaVinci Code on my iPod there and back. I'm through most of it and loving it. My friend Andi gave me the book on CD several years ago. When she died, I couldn't bring myself to listen. It was almost like I still had a part of her with me and if I listened to the book, I would have nothing of her left to look forward to. Probably didn't help the mounting depression I was feeling by leaving the town I used to call home in the height of its glory.
I almost went to see King Kong as soon as I got home. Movies always cheer me up. I love getting lost in a movie for a couple hours. I come out thinking more about the movie and less about when sent me there in the first place. I thought it wouldn't be fair to Zoe to make her sit in a theater for 3 hours after a 7 hour drive so we went last night after work instead. There was a preview for DaVinci Code. She just about jumped out of her seat. She was so excited that she recognized the story and characters. lol
Kong was incredible though. It was everything I hoped for and more. I cried like a baby through several scenes. I think it was therapeutic because I'm feeling much better today. I think Peter Jackson just tromped Ridley Scott as my all-time favorite director. It was close before. The characters were awesome, especially Kong. Andy Serkis really brings so much personality to his roles, even when he's barely recognizable. Did anyone notice him in dual roles?? He played both Lumpy and Kong. Naomi Watts was impressive. I've always thought she was talented but she really shines in this role. I loved the comedy.
I'm so glad I finally got to see it. We tried to see it in Mammoth but the snowman building took precedent. It's not every day you get to build a snowman, especially when you live in SoCal. Zoe didn't even want to see it. She said she went because I wanted to. She wanted to see Narnia again instead. She was raving about it afterward though. Haha. I win :)
