Another Episode of:
Why Famous Composers are Fuckin Cool, by Joshua Bullen
Today's study: Bottesini
Bottesini is probably the one composer with whom I connect on a very personal note. Born in Italy during the Baroque period, Bottesini started studying piano and Double bass at the age of twelve (very young as far as bassists are concerned). By 14, he had become one of the most established Upright players in Italy. He took the bass places it had never been before. He compared the double bass to "The Voice of Heaven. A very vibrant and low heaven." His compositions are a mandatory staple for the repertoire of any serious double bassist.
So why is he fuckin' cool? Two things-both happen to be quotes. The first, was when he was only thirteen, he said to his teacher
"I know sir, that I have played out of tune, but when I learn where to place my fingers, this shall no longer happen."
Genious.
and second, right before he died (although this is debated...) he was quoted:
"Thank you. The concert end; There will be no encore."
Heroic, at the least.
And that's all for now.
IM GETTING MY BASS TOMMOROW.
