some colossal thing, larger than anything witnessed by man and science, stalked the ruined city - silently lumbering through the shells of buildings and smoking columns. it had been unearthed by the quake, and perhaps caused it, and had the appearance of having laid rotting within the earth for eons. it spoke deeply in a language that was not english or any other language of the world, but understood by all. it uttered ultimatums and punishments. it spoke of the misery that belonged to us. it rumbled out from its cavernous mouth the emptiness of space, tainting the stale wind with the scent of dying stars.
i awoke in the wreckage to the face of a man.
i stood up and found myself in front of a window high up in a tower. as the beast walked in the distance i stumbled and fell back through the portal. the man grabbed my collar and pulled me back in. he said to me:
"when everything goes blue, speed the line."
suddenly my surroundings glossed over - tinting blue as if through a colored lens. things began to appear just out of sight - in corners and just inside of doorways. things that held no form until i looked directly at them. they would remain only for seconds after i turned to see them and then vanish, but their presence was still felt. i knew they were there and that the horrible color had let them in. the man was no longer to be found. i then realized what his words had meant. i ran. as fast i could.
