I pieced this entry together using YouTube, and trying to get it all typed out in a hurry in between my office work. Hope it flows all right, I didn't get the chance to do any re-wording, so please forgive the rough edges.
Last night, the last three Idol contestants performed three songs each. One, picked by the AI judges themselves, one picked by the AI producers, and they got to choose the last song themselves. On with the show!
----------------
DAVID ARCHULETA -
Paula's choice: "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel.
Paula, Paula, Paula. I am going to kick your ass. All season long, I've been waiting to hear this boy do something besides a drippy, sappy, sugar-coated ballad, and what do you do? You choose a drippy, sappy, sugar-coated ballad for him to sing. I know you can't see me, but I am shaking my finger at you, trying to shame you for your song choice. I'm not even going to attempt to criticize him any more. He's technically very good, but I stopped listening to him a long time ago.
SYESHA MERCADO -
Randy's choice: I can say this much - she looks FANTASTIC in a flashy dress! And I thought she did a really good job on this song. It's not one I'm likely to remember and go look up later, but I thought she gave an adequate performance.
DAVID COOK -
Simon's choice: "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" - Roberta Flack
Honestly, it started out a little strange for me. However, as per David Cook's usual, the end rocked. I can see where this guy is going to have a great career.

DAVID ARCHULETA -
Producer's Choice: "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg
Dammit! Somebody's gonna make me whoop some producer ass! Stop picking all this slow crap! I guess it's a little late, so I'm resigned to having to listen to his boring rendition of a really great song. Unfortunately, when the contestants keep singing the same types of things, they all start to run together. This one was no exception. I also thought he put in way too many nuances. This song is supposed to be simple, and should not be overdone. Ha! Simon agrees with me in that the song was too "gooey" and too old for him.
SYESHA MERCADO -
Producer's Choice: "Hit Me Up" from the Happy Feet soundtrack
I feel a little sorry for Syesha on this one. The producers obviously picked a terribly complicated song for her. I think, all considered, she did a pretty good job on it, despite getting a little off tempo, and having her voice not really fit the song. It's not her fault. She worked with what they gave her, and she did way better than most people could on that type of song, save Beyonce.
DAVID COOK -
Producer's Choice: "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" - by Aerosmith
This performance right here is why I think David Cook will have a brilliant recording career. It isn't necessarily a song I would want to hear him do on an album - but then again, he didn't pick it. Aside from that tidbit, he did a really great job, and threw his big voice around that stage, and really worked what they gave him. Nice job!

DAVID ARCHULETA -
Contestant's Choice: "With You" by Chris Brown
Well, it was a little bit better - relatively. It wasn't exactly the up-tempo style I was hoping for, but I suppose I can just try to find some positivity in it. Instead of being an icky-sticky-sweet ballad, it was an icky-sticky-sweet easy listening pop song. I'm really bored with this guy.
SYESHA MERCADO -
Contestant's Choice: "Fever" by Peggy Lee.
Hmmm, one of my favorite songs ever, and she even has a prop chair to work with. BAM! ZAP! ZOINK! That was really, really hot. I don't know why she couldn't pull out a performance like that earlier in the season! I think I just lost all my gayness - I'm going home with Syesha tonight!
DAVID COOK -
Contestant's Choice: "Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot.
I thought this was a fairly good song choice, although I had never heard the original. It shows exactly the type of song that I would expect to hear on David's album, and how well he would perform it. Since I hadn't heard it before, I can't say much as to how well the song was done, other than it sounded good to me! Very good job, hometown boy.
