There's so much blood, so much fucking blood, and it's all over her hands and staining her blouse. Leo's yelling at her for confirmation, some fucking sign, that isn't someone they care about but as always she's the bearer of bad news.
"It's Josh," and her hands are in front of her face. It's Josh. Of all of them it's him and Leo runs with them until they are forced away. Until she's pushed away, alone with her hands, his blood, and this hazy head of hers that is unsure of everything. Those memories, those important details, are now scattered across wet pavement and she's never been so scared.

Danny's hounding her again about who's in charge and Leo McGarry is her instinctual name but realizing that no, he can't be, she draws the VP and suddenly she she's snowballing. This day is snowballing. He has this look in his eyes, Danny does, and it shows that he's scared as well. The President was shot at and even though that is a big enough shock for all of them it doesn't matter to him because she had a police car window blown out over her head. She could have died and this consumes his brain the most tonight.
However he is a reporter and she is Press Secretary, and jobs come first no matter what so he hounds.

Sam saved her life, her necklace, and even though she told him she doesn't feel beholden she always will. You can't make up for that. He pushed her down while a bullet broke a window only a matter of seconds after they hit the ground together. Sam's a hero and heroes are never scared so she asks:
"Were you scared?"
"Yeah," he answers with eyes so blue.
No surprises there. He really is only human after all.
"So was I," and she doesn't know what makes her say it other than she needs this moment. She needs to be able to say this truth, this feeling she's never been good with.
He walks away and she finally lets a smile appear. He saved her life.

Josh, like the rest of them, lived through this tragedy (thank God) and normalcy can now resume. Finally, they can try and heal. C.J. forces herself to sleep easy that night but sleeping comes easier than she could have imagined.
She's still breathing.
She'll keep breathing.
They all will.
