It's been a year.
He thought he was over this, the music thing. Apparently not and it is no longer something he can tolerate. The bass makes his stomach flip but he stays in the room, just to see her. He watches as the silky smooth jazz rips his nerves and pumps his heart too fast. His palms are sweating but not because he feels the adrenaline shoot too high; it's the sweat of want, of need. The want and need to reach out and touch her, to feel her skin underneath her finger tips and for once her lips against his.
He watches as she spins around, pointing, smiling and then mouthing to him:
"The Jackal," she winks and he feels the lead enter his chest for the umpteenth time.

She sees him fidget and knows he's uncomfortable.
She thought he was over it, the music post-trauma. Apparently she is wrong and it makes her heart ache. She smiles and continues her show.
"Six foot four and not an ounce of fat!"
She slaps her thighs too hard, a result of noticing his pain and it makes the show more dramatic seeing her hair flip and face contort.
He's the only one that notices.
"The Jackal…"
It's over and the whistling and cat callings have died, leaving them all to file out. She catches Josh's hand before he gets too far away.

"I'm sorry," CJ's eyes are soft, heartbreakingly sincere.
"Don't be," he shrugs. "We thought it was over."
She kisses him gently as their hands break contact.
"I thought that was too," he smiles shyly.
