The Marketing Machine

There's a comedian on this MySpace whose name I will not mention. He has like 30,000 friends and spam comments ALL of his "friends" with shitty jokes. This means there's 30,000 profiles out there that if I visit any of them, which the odds are high I will, I have to see this dude's picture and shitty, completely generic joke. It's the perfect example of a theme in comedy now: Marketing FIRST, Material SECOND.

There was a saying back in the 70's referencing the band KISS that said "Most bands want to be the Beatles. KISS wants to be Coca-Cola." This is where most art is now and comedy is no different. Everyone is fighting each other to be on some shitty talking head show to discuss Lindsay Lohan instead of worrying about using their potentially powerful medium to share original thoughts and voice opinions.

The saying has now completely flipped around - Most Comedians want to be Coca-Cola. Which is telling, because Coca-Cola is 90% water.
