Its football season - Whoop de freaking doo

Good lord, you'd think that gas was back to fifty cents a gallon the way that people are salivating over the Ravens pre-season game tonight. They have mentioned it about 50 times on TV today, its all over the paper, virtually everyone I see is so excited about it. I'm suddenly grateful we don't have a pro team in Las Vegas. I mean, I kind of soured on the NFL after the Colts left Baltimore, and was never really a college football fan, and when the whole OJ mess came down, it killed most of my remaining love for the game. When I was a kid, OJ was my hero, I thought he was the greatest ever. Well, that dream died hard. Since then, I don't know if I've even watched an NFL game the whole way through, and I still don't care about college football. Yeah, its impossible not to get exposed to it somewhat, and I just don't care, and the way people get so excited about it, especially now when its a totally meaningless pre-season game, turns my stomach a bit.

I'm a big baseball fan. I love my Orioles, even when they suck (like, um, now). But I'm not rabid about it. If I miss a game, big deal. If they have a down season, big deal. Yeah, its fun, yeah I cheer loud, yeah, I hate the Yankees (I mean, I really hate the Yankees), but I don't live or die with it. If baseball went away, I'd live. I'm not sure some of these Ravens fans would. And compared to some other fans I've seen, like Raiders and Cowboys fans and more recently Patriots fans, these guys are mild.

Instead of football, I'm going to see who won "So You Think You Can Dance" tonight.

weird stuff
