Convention pre-prep

May 13, 2008 20:48

Well, I went to a pre-meeting for the Democratic Convention tonight. It was pretty boring (which I kind of expected, but figured I should go anyway). They went over the schedule (Friday: Fund raising parties; Saturday - Presidential candidate vote and delegate election; Sunday - State business). I'm still technically running to be a delegate to the National Convention, but they said to expect to have to spend at least $2,300 for the convention, and there are people better prepared than I, so I'm not going to be crushed if I don't get it. Its a long-shot for everyone involved, with no more than a 1% - 2% chance of going, and we'll see. I mean, how often does a chance like this go along. The campaign hasn't found me a roommate yet, although the hotel I'm staying at isn't that expensive ($119/night) so I haven't made a decision on Tucson, although right now I'm leaning against it.

On another note, about three weeks ago, I posted about a business mixer I had attended. I met a couple of interesting women there, and one of them e-mailed me today with a very nice, chit-chatty e-mail asking me how I'd been, had I gone to the San Diego airshow, little things. Well, nice and emboldened, I wrote her back and asked her out. Hey, all she can say is "no", right? If she doesn't, this would be my first real date in almost a decade. I technically went out on a blind date a couple of weeks ago, my business partner's wife has been trying to set me up with a friend of hers for weeks, but that I did more because she was bugging me than from an actual desire to go out. I'm still not looking for a relationship, and at least enjoying time out is better than sitting at home. So, we'll see how it goes.
