Mudhoney - You're Gone

The You're Gone E.P. is one of the forgotten classics in Mudhoney's career. Tucked between their eponymous self-titled L.P. and the final release the band would offer for Sub Pop (on their first tour of duty, anyway) it is not only a great Mudhoney release, it is quintessential early '90's Sub Pop.

In general, the tunes lean more towards punk/hardcore than grunge, and this is a path the band would continue down for years. Steve Turner's signature flighty guitar parts and Matt Lukin's rumbling basslines clip along at breakneck speed, while Dan Peters pounds away on his toms in a style that had already become signature for him by this point.

The A-Side remains exclusive to this E.P., but both of the B-sides appear in one form or another on subsequent releases by the band. "Thorn" would be on their next full length album, and their collaboration with punk legend Billy Childish, "You Make Me Die," would be recorded as a John Peel Session for BBC and released on CD years later.
