Roles of Nurses that Include Research
Registered Nurses: All registered nurses, as professionals, are expected to read, critique, and apply nursing research to improve patient outcomes in their own area of practice based on culturally competent care.
Baccalaureate Nurse: The Baccalaureate prepared nurse is expected to utilize research to improve clinical outcomes and empower the leadership development of other nurses to help build a culture of evidence-based practice.
Masters Prepared Nurses: Masters prepared nurses, in their areas of practice, are expected to educate future and current nurses, develop and lead programs of nursing research where nurses can apply evidence-based knowledge to assess, improve, and critically evaluate outcomes from nursing care provided on their unity, in their facility, and in the community.
Doctorally Prepared Nurse: Nurses prepared at the doctoral level are expected to build and refine the body of knowledge in nursing education, nursing theory, nursing research, and nursing practice. Increasingly, theory and concept development, expertise in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the ability to develop tand coordinate multisite, multi-method, and interdisciplinary research are skills that are expected of doctorally prepared nurses.
