looking at the paper just now i saw there's a screening of Gone With the Wind. made me think. mostly that i've never actually seen Gone With the Wind. which made me think; there are quite a few popular movies that i've never seen that i probably should have at this point (keeping in mind that i worked at a movie store for 7 years)
some examples
Terminator, The
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Wizard of Oz, The
Citizen Kane (never seen it all, at least not in one sitting)
12 Angry Men
the Verdict
Ghandi
Lawrence of Arabia
Great Escape, The
JFK
Ben-Hur
Bridge on the River Kwai
Last Boyscout, The
Bad Boys (I or II)
Rashomon
Monty Python's the Life of Brian
Sabrina
Wild Bunch, The
Omen, The
Psycho
North By Northwest
Rear Window
Superman II
Revenge of the Nerds
Porky's
Giant
any musicals
most Disney
never seen an episode of the original Star Trek series.
i could do the same thing with books. i've never read many that are considered classics.
1984
Great Gatsby, The
On the Road (didn't finish it)
all Dickens (save Great Expectations, which i liked quite a bit)
Les Miserables
Mark Twain
East of Eden
Jane Austen
the Bronte Sisters
Don Quixote
Red Badge of Courage, The
Scarlet Letter, The (read most of it, hated it)
Jack London
Hemmingway (aside from a book of short stories)
Faulkner (well, i read most of As I Lay Dying)
Moby Dick (i actually read it in 8th grade, at least i think i did, but don't remember a thing about it)
Ayn Rand
Thomas Pynchon
Don DeLillo
Thomas Wolfe (either one)
Norman Mailer
Martin Amis
Ian McEwan
John Updike
i'm sure there's more there, too.
no point to any of this. just putting it out there.
anyone else?
