random notes from the outer rim.
i listened to the essential Skeeter Davis last night. i always put on my country ears when listening before, but she really sounds a lot like the Ronettes or something. funny it's still considered country.
Pearl in a can- not bad at all. and you can't beat the price.
Dear Chicago just might be the finest song ever written.
"I've had all that I wanted of a lot of things I've had
And a lot more than I needed of some things that turned out bad"
i was called, and i quote "incredibly stupid" by a lady at work today. i smiled, told her she's too kind to say so and laughed. she got the general manager and we had a talk. it was funny, really.
i'm feeling old these days. not sure why, but it's all beginning to feel like it's ending as the man once said. like i need to get a few things done before i go on much longer. just to get them done.
i'm about this close to going to get a CDL, just because i always wanted to drive an 18 wheeler OTR at least for a short time.
i'm up for a job or 3 at the railroad. the railroad! i'd give anything to be a train conductor. think about it. train conductor. remember baing young and how cool trains were then. i'd still like to drive one, i think.
did anyone ever seen the Cash video for Hurt? where he's driving the train and the look on his face. like he died and went to heaven. that's what i think i'd feel like, driving a train. my friend did it for a while, in Nebraska. he drailed three train cars. kind of scary.
i think i could be a butcher for the rest of my life and enjoy it, though. i mean if the'd let me off Sunday nights to attend church, i think i'd love the job with no reservations, "incredibly stupid" or not.
Ryan Adams is releasing 3 albums in 2005. the first one was a double album, the second might be the best country album released this year and the third is a concept album called 29 featuring 9 story songs, each one about a year of his 20's. can't wait. if anyone feels the need, i will accept it as a Christmas gift, even thought i'll buy a copy the day it's released.
hallelujah, my friend is coming home, hallelujah!
a girl from my church is buying my house (hope, hope) it'a almost a done deal and i think i really helped her out, and i know she helped me out a great deal.
i'm sure i'll think of more as soon as i post this here post.
oh, Blood Meridian might be the best written book ever. no hyperbole. the story drags i nplaces, but the prose and the author's (Cormac McCarthy) use of the English (and Sapnish) language was enough to make me keep going. if i was half the writer he is, i could die a happy man.
