Under Construction

Sep 20, 2006 22:44

This morning I awoke in sort of a rush. I got out on the road and after about driving two miles I got to a bunch of construction junk. They were paving the right side of the road and so everyone was driving on the left side. To my horror, I realized that I was only moving about two inches every five minutes in a jam packed lane. Up ahead, I noticed that a double wide trailor was being carried. There was no way around this baby. I was stuck along with all the rest. It was just like the opening scene in the movie "Office Space." I couldn't believe how much it felt like that. When I finally got out of that mess, I found more road construction a few miles ahead, but luckily there was no double side blocking the other side of the road. That's a lot of road construction chaos for one day.

I came in only about 5 minutes late for my Art class which it could've been worse. It paid off in the end though. Our assignment for that class had been to make an art design out of Word font only. For example, what I did was I copy and pasted the lyrics to "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin on a piece of paper twice, and then I went inbetween the song, and put certain words in Bold, making a shape stick out. I made a staircase that zig zagged upward toward a platform with the number "777" on it. This was in the song itself. A lot of people in there seemed to like it so I was pleased. I wasn't sure if it would be liked or not. haha You just can't go wrong with that song. I saw Wayne's World on the movie channels today and I saw that classic part where they won't let Wayne play "Stairway to Heaven" in the music shop. haha like it's forbidden to do unless you buy something. "No Stairway! Denied!"

I also had my long Creative Writing class that day at 1. We all had to write either a short story or 4 poems and bring them in to share with the class. Just between the 5 people that are in that class, it took up the whole three hours and thirty minutes. One thing about Poetry that my instructor told me, THEY DON'T RHYME! Now anyone who's read my lyrics on here know that I can be a rhyming junkie. The thing is SONG LYRICS can rhyme he said, for that's a different story. There is music to help it flow. In POETRY, you should only rhyme if you are already a well known poet. Well anyhow, here are four of my non rhyming poems that I wrote and brought into the class. People seemed to like them. I hope you do as well. Keep in mind, these are POEMS, not SONG LYRICS, even though they are in the same family tree.

Haunted House
By: Josh Rose

In this bed I close my eyes and rest
A different phase of life appears
A stormy sky, purple lightning
An old shabby house that has aged

Broken in steps lead to a stone door
It opens with a spine chilling creak
Inside are cobwebs like white nets
A black cat watches me from the windowsill

I feel as though I have visited here before
Yet I have never lived inside
De Ja Vu plays its mesmerizing organ
I know somehow I will see this vision again

I know my friends and family are waiting inside
They are hidden and I can't find them
Red curtains, flying bats, a candle that is lit
Why does this place feel so familiar?

Could I be the ghost that haunts this home?
A white spirit that guides the hall
Could I see this haunted house again in a different form?
Dust lies along old furniture and floats along

A staircase is lined with empty rooms
Cyan moonlight creeps through the windows
I feel alone but yet someone is watching me
I want to find out who has brought me here

I can't find the skeleton key to lock the door
I hear footsteps and voices in my head
Someone is definitely following me
Paranoid, confused, and calm

I decide to leave but I am trapped inside
I awake in my bed in a different world
Studying the images I saw that very night
Wondering if someday I'll see the Haunted House

The Magician
By: Josh Rose

I pull a rabbit out of a hat
The fans gasp in a fiery awe
The crowd is pleased once again
A profit is made to build my home

The trickery is simple to create
Shiny mirrors, trap doors, hiding smoke
To make it work? I will never reveal
There's much more than meets the eye

I saw a woman in half
The split seems shockingly real
My black cape and hat show power
The young seem to think I'm superman

Respect my work; I will guess your card
Spades, Diamonds, Clubs, or Hearts
Show no appreciation; I can easily disappear
A red photo booth with a draped black curtain

I can make metal rings become one
I can pull 30 handkerchiefs from my sleeve
I can make a tiger appear before your vision
I can create flowers in a glass with my wand

My hand is quicker than your eye
The curiosity keeps the excitement
White doves, mask of question
A promising work of entertainment

I am the Magician

Fast Food
By: Josh Rose

I know I should not eat this food
For it's bad for my body
Burgers, shakes, French fries,
It's a different kind of addiction
It drives us back for more
Then it adds the pounds on our waist
Chicken, tacos, dipping sauce,
With a few ingredients added
Ketchup, honey mustard, and Barbeque
Just to name a few of them

Fast food is convenient, that's why it's loved
Someone else cooks, with a hat and uniform
No one to clean the mess afterwards
This could make for a dangerous habit
Straws, napkins, trays, salt, and pepper,
A fountain of drinks with sugary soda
A playground for your kids to wonder free
Toys for them in a happy meal
The attractions keep us coming back again
Especially on long trips and vacations

A drive thru to serve us quickly
Cheap prices to keep our wallets full
It seems so great yet it's also a hazard
We must learn some self control
Too much could lead to the hospital
Watching every calorie we eat
I love the fast food but it doesn't love me
More restaurants are built everyday
We must prepare more of our own meals
Or else these businesses will get the best of us

Claw Machine
By: Josh Rose

As I leave the stores I see them
Glass machines filled with stuffed animals
Wondering if I can win a prize today
Or if I will leave empty handed

I deposit a quarter
I move a lever to the right
A metal claw moves
I press a red button on top
The claw drops on a stuffed gorilla

The gorilla wears a leather jacket
The claw wraps itself around his stomach
The claw closes and lifts the toy up high
Then it moves to the left over a hole

The claw drops the gorilla
I claim my success
Through a small plastic door
A smile on my face

Maybe those could turn into something one day. Who knows? There were some other interesting pieces brought to the class as well. One guy wrote a poem about his dad buying him a Superman comic as a kid for 12 cents, and how he used to read it at his Dad's drycleaning service. Another girl brought a piece about losing a loved one from a drinking and driving accident. One lady wrote a short story about her pet dog "Duke" that passed away but whom was intelligent. Finally, another girl wrote a poem about the passage of time. Different ideas were shared, and we actually had to read the piece by the person next to us, so you get a different view on what you wrote. Interesting.

I rented the movie "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary" today because I don't think that I've seen it. I saw the sequel to it, but I love Urban Legends so much I just had to rent that movie. Anyhow, I grabbed some Chinese for supper since it was the first thing I'd had to eat all day. My fortune cookie read something like "My talents would be recognized." I always loved fortune cookies, Magic 8-Balls, and things like this. Even though it could be bullshit, at least you get an answer out of them. I like answers. Questions are good too, but I definitely love answers.

I still can't wait for Jackass number 2 this Friday. We're seeing the midnight showing at the Cinemall. I've been waiting awhile for this movie. It's not everyday you get to see a movie with complete idiots putting their lives on the line for the entertainment of others. I mean look at ole Steve Irwin, did you expect that guy to ever die? A sting ray got him my friends, NOT a crocodile.

This is all I have for ya, take care.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings

In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird that sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

And it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving

In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
A-then the piper will lead us to reason

And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May queen

Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
And there's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go
In case ya don't know
The piper's calling you to join him

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

SOLO

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls

There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show

How everything still turns to gold, yeah
And if you listen very hard

The tune will come to you at last
When all is one and one is all

To be a rock and not to roll, not to roll
Don't make me roll

And she's buying a stairway to heaven
