haha yeah, well I'm making a ridiculously broad statement that doesn't have any rational defense right there, but I'm just so sick of republicans and democrats thinking they all have the moral and intellectual high ground and refusing any kind of real compromise (giving up) that could lead to oh, I don't know, maybe some real progress in politics and society!
Besides, objectivity is a fallacy by the mere fact that it's absolutist! Yessss. I am so college right now.
Obviously we have our share of it in Canada (in everything), but it seems like the culture is way more polarised in the United States. Like all of the radicals control the media, and giving an inch means "surrender"? I mean, not as bad as that but... it's just crazy, the back and forth.
It seems funny when people say things to me about the other candidate's policies (being bad) because for the most part they just glean them from what the opposite party is saying about them. It's like... a circus? Where everyone is screaming.
Well, I'm sure a good bit of the impression you (or anyone outside the US) get is definitely skewed towards showing our crazy side. Especially around this time of year, suddenly everyone is a political analyst and everyone knows what's right and wrong in everything. It is truly absurd.
I also agree with you about the parties back and forth. I don't believe it would be an awful thing for Obama OR McCain to say something along the lines of "Yes it's true I don't understand this facet of society or economics or miscellaneous issue, but that's why there are advisers, aids, and experts all around to help make decisions." People seem to want the president to be this all-knowing dude (or dudette), with as few human flaws as possible, but that's totally irrational. But yeah, there's a lot of screaming.
Stop agreeing with everyone and saying they are right! If Kate's and Tim's ways can't both be right! You are wishy washy on the issues! And stand up for yourself when people say you are wrong. As your father, I demand that you punch that guy who says you're wrong in the nose, or I shall be forced to beat up his father.
