and in th(o/e)se days it happened
that butterflies were forgotten.

for as you tumbled, forlorn, ever-onward,
(a blizzard of love, avarice, and god)
distanced yourself from such absurdity
yet wept "who is?" and pounded your fists
clenched in existence with much reason.

you dreamt, you died, and cried out
in fright at kudzu and what it meant to us all.

i knew by then you knew that
"why us, why now?"
was best left answered by any peculiar insect
and that wind was the all-but-dead language
of love yet lost.
