The history of Greek pottery extends over centuries from the early Etruscan and Minoan pottery to the later black and red figure vases. Given their durable nature, Greek vases play a critical role in the piecing together the story of ancient Greece, telling the story of every day life, mythology and customs.

Medieval noblemen were at risk of being hurt by friendly fire as they were unidentifiable in their suits of armour. So the coat of arms was devised to help identify them to their followers.
