There's a smug satisfaction to be had in using DeviantArt's journal feature to conspire for a new, competing site. Realistically, until I establish a separate blog to cover site development matters - I'll do that once I have a domain name registered so I can claim an appropriate Blogger name - it's the best place for me to retain the audience I trust in this respect and to keep their hopes alive. DA retains that much value, at least, although that serves to prove my point that it's not much of an art site anymore.
Last night I finally wrote up a lengthy entry discussing the emphasis of the site concept on original art, a broad and glib definition of that being that it is the opposite of fan art. Fan art would be justifiably excluded, without a ban if possible. I went into quite a bit of depth on various matters around the emphasis. I also brought up tribute art and the criteria I would use to classify it as original art.
