SouthLab: added flavour to races.

Feb 01, 2010 15:30

Humans are balanced in every way. They have no particular advantages over other races, but they don't suffer any particular disadvantages either, so they may succeed in any class. They dominate student life and the culture of Ockham University.

Elves are tall, nimble and fey. They are, however, a little frail. They tend to be poorer in melee combat, preferring lighter weapons. They are however handy with ranged weapons, known for their skill with bows. They command classier engagements, like the fencing, archery and equestrian teams, yet they also command the dirty engagements on the dorm room beds.

Dwarves are short, strong and resilient, but not very dexterous or magically inclined. They favour close combat with heavier weapons. They lead the (often drunken) excursions into town to loudly denigrate other schools, thus driving the university's spirit.

Gnomes are also short, but they are quite weak. They are cunning by nature and excel in tricky situations. At range they have a peculiar preference for crossbows. They are renowned pranksters in the dorms and organize legendarily mischievous Frosh Week activities every year.

Ogres are huge and physically powerful. They are not graceful, though, and they aren't considered the sharpest students. Their combat tendencies hand-to-hand and at range are simple: hit stuff hard with stuff that's hard. They make excellent tackles for the football team, and they love to haze the freshers.

I guess you call it "Orientation Week" stateside. As for the football referenced here, in this case it's the Canmerican version, but throughout SouthLab there'll be references to this minor controversy. Porque lo que no es el fútbol, ¡es el fútbol!

So basically I just added some flavour to the descriptions to play on the context a little more. But it's not entirely flavour, as the additions do reinforce each race's tendencies a little more.

This is more fun than watching my mother vomit. But she hasn't puked today, so that's a step forward.
