After the break

Well, I've decided to give this another try, after a long hiatus (due largely to multiple transitions;job, address, etc.). I began by reviewing prior entries and retiring the ones that I felt were not quite on the mark. This time around, I'm going to work on removing myself from the entries as much as possible and to stay on point with whatever I'm writing about. Upon, honest reflection, pesonality just ain't that interesting. And so, future posts will be limited to what it is I find interesting at that time. Most of my free time these days is taken up by reading (which I've badly needed to catch up on). So, here's the current list. Just finished: Philip Kerr's "Berlin Noir" trilogy. I discovered this one by chance. I was looking for some Kerouac and found one of Kerr's other books. The most original character I've yet seen. A German private detective working in Nazi Germany. I was, like, "this is so good, how is it I never heard of him and discovered the book by chance. (Kerr is something of a cult figure in his native Britian). Current: A Woman in Berlin. Anonymous. This book is a diary keep by a woman who live through the fall of Berlin and the Russian occupation of the city. From what I've read this seems like one of the most remarkable books ever written. The author,a journalist before the war, recorded her day to day existence, which included gang rape and sexual bartering with the conquering russians. The book is completely honest and unflinching. And best of all I havn't come accross one sentimental line so far. Upcoming: I'll be doing Charles Bukowski (I guess I've been reading too much of Content Love's journal on that one; at any rate I'll find out what's got her so excited.), also, something my co-workers (Half Price Books) rave about, "House of Leaves", by Mark Danielewski. At least my mind isn't going to rot over the next few weeks.
