I am listening to a This American Life episode about a guy who runs away to go meet Piers Anthony based on nothing but what he had read in the man's books.
It is reminding me of the time that I spent a weekend in London tracking down Warren Ellis.
That was really a great adventure.
I was listening to that show as I was on another, much smaller, adventure... but one of great personal import...
While Bekah is off on her own adventure of much greater personal import.
For me, I walked down to the Dunkin Donuts at the corner to get an iced coffee and take my dog for a walk. She really needed a walk because she is anxious about Bekah being out of the house for a while. More on that in a little bit.
My adventure was a significant one because I have not made that walk in over a month... maybe two months. My back has been hurting terribly. But have gotten good medicine for it, and found some good exercises... and I have been feeling much better. I only had to stop and rest once on my trip. Back at home, in the AC, I am startled to notice that the worst thing about my walk was the heat. I had some back discomfort, but no actual pain. Just writing that... feels really nice.
Molly's adventure was being out in the world with me, and with no Bekah to take special care of her. She is happy to be here with me, but she really prefers Bekah's constant attention. But, she learned today that she can get by.
Bekah's adventure is much better than ours, though. She left this morning to begin her week of courses with The National Guild of Hypnotists. For real. This is a dream she has had, probably, for as long as I have known her. Longer even.
Circumstances have finally aligned, and she is now able to take this huge step toward professional legitimacy in her chosen field. This is very exciting for her and for me.
It is one thing to study, and practice, and research the thing... but to pay the fee, and take the course, learn the material, and then get a piece of paper that says YOU ARE THE THING.
Well, that's pretty great.
Oh, also, my mom is about to embark on an adventure.
Now, let's hear about YOUR adventure.
