Wow.

I felt this was worth sharing. The photocipier at work is on the fritz again and I walked past it today and found a roughly scribbled note saying, "Please let me go." and the period was really a line that trailed off the page. It looked as if the photocopier, could it actually write, had passed out while writing the note. Next to this was a set of Physicians Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) was filled out with the name "Cory Copier". The boxes checked indicated the "patient" was DNR/AND (Do Not Resuscitate/ Allow Natural Death), No antibiotics, no feeding tube. It was signed by the "Patient" and "Doctor" (Dr. XEROX), on the actual form we use for patients. In other words, were this a real person, it would be legally binding.

Well anyway, after lunch I came back to the printer and saw a Memo saying this:

Notice of Revocation of POLST form

August 1st, 2006

To whom it may concern:

My father (Photocopier) was not legally ably to make decisions regarding his care when he signed the 'POLST' form. I believe, as his DPOA [durable power of attourney], that if he was in his right mind when he was given this form, he would have elected to recieve full treatment.

Please take this letter as a notice of dispute.

The Fax Machine.

CC: King County Superior Court
Xerox Corporation

Judging by the hand-writing on the notice of revocation, I think my boss believes the photocopier should be given full medical treatment.
