"Hey."
"Hey…"
"Where-"
"I-"
"Did you at least watch?"
"Of course."
"Did…did Jack get going safely?"
"This morning."
"Are you okay?"
"I…well…yeah…yeah."
"You don't sound-"
"Please don't push it, okay?"
"Okay…"
"It's just a rough day for me."
"Yeah…"
"Go enjoy the parties."
"You're not--?"
"No."
"Donna…"
"Josh, I…"
"You should be there. You helped-"
"I can't."
"You can."
"I just don't feel right."
"You should be there."
"Please…"
"You want to be there."
"I…" she sniffled, despite her best efforts to hide it. "I'm going to watch it all on TV."
"You were so excited about it."
"That was before-"
"You were excited about your new dress-"
"Maybe I'll still wear my dress. I'll sit here in my dress and watch-"
"That's ridiculous. Just-"
"Josh! If you don't stop, I'll just hang up."
"I could just order you-"
"You really couldn't."
Josh sighed. "Yeah…"
"I screwed up, and have to face the consequences."
"It was a stupid move, yes-"
"See?"
"But these things only come once every 4 years. This is our last Barlet inaugural ball."
"I just don't feel right…Josh, go enjoy the ball."
Josh flopped into his chair , raking his hand through his hair. "My bowtie's gonna look like shit."
Donna chuckled. "You can tie it. You like to pretend you can't, but…"
"It looks better when you do it."
"Yeah…"
"There's really nothing I can do to get you to come?"
Donna bit her lip.
"You're really gonna sit there in a gorgeous dress and watch the ball on TV?"
Donna stayed silent, not trusting her voice.
"People are dismayed, yes, but they're gonna get over it. It's a day of celebration, it'll get swept under…no?"
"I…can't…"
"Please don't cry."
"Have a good time tonight, Josh."
"I'll call you la-" he added, but she'd hung up.

"Hold on, let me just…" Josh slid into the car behind Donna, and pulled her down on his lap. She chuckled. Toby glared at them from across the cab. Josh wrapped his arm around her waist, tightly pulling her to him. Donna sighed, leaning back against his chest.
"Comfy?"
"Mmmhmmm…"
His hand slid beneath the loosely draped coat wrapped around her to gently stroke the soft silk covering her stomach. "See, you didn't want to waste tonight watching on TV," he whispered. "You look far too good for that."
Donna blushed, and turned her face toward him, surprised at just how close he was. "You think?"
"I've never seen your hair like that."
"I had time."
"It looks nice."
Donna smiled. "Your bowtie came out fine."
"It's loose. Will you retie it?"
Donna shook her head, grinning.
"I could just pull it out."
She smacked his knee.
"Ow!"
"Why is there hitting?" Will asked, perplexed.
"He deserved that," Donna laughed, as Josh tickled her side, making her squeal.
"Okay, it's a little too crowded back here for rough housing," Charlie shook his head.
"See what you started?" Josh whispered, his lips brushing against her ear.
Donna shivered, and he squeezed her hand hard. "Maybe a little less squirming?"
She chuckled. "You don't like?" she asked innocently.
Josh groaned, burying his head on her shoulder.
"Are they always like this, with the whispering and all?" Will quietly asked Toby.
"Yes..." he sighed. "Yes, they are."
"I haven't heard this song in ages!" Danny exclaimed from the front seat. "Turn it up!"
'Wild thing...you make my heart sing...
You make everything
Groovy
I said wild thing...
Wild thing, I think you move me
But I wanna know for sure
So come on, hold me tight
You move me'
Everyone chuckled as Danny sung along with the song.
Donna swayed in place until Josh moaned softly. "Don't like moving with me, Wild Thing?" she smirked.
"God," Josh groaned into her neck "Wild Thing, huh?" His fingers traced up and down her thigh, under the coat.
"Mmmhmmm…"
"That should be my name tonight."
She smiled. "I should address you as Wild Thing?"
"I think so," he grinned.
"You'd like that, huh?"
Josh took a deep breath, sitting up straight, his eyes locked with hers. "We're almost there…"
"I'll sit still," she smiled, scooting forward onto his knees.
"Thank you."
"Wild Thing."

Josh stood on the periphery of the room, sipping a glass of red wine. Donna swept by , and in a quick motion put his glass on the table, and led him to the center.
"Dance with me, Wild Thing."
Josh grinned, and pulled her close. "I see you picked a slow song."
"Warm you up a little first."
"I'm not complaining."
"I bet."
He rest his cheek against hers, and they swayed to the music.
"Thank you for coming to get me."
"I told you, you deserve to be here. And once I put it all together…"
"Yeah…"
"You look…so incredible tonight…" he kissed the side of her neck softly.
"There are so many people around…"
"I…yeah…"
"Not here."
"You're right, as usual."
Charlie strode over to them. "I hate to interrupt-"
"Interrupt?" Josh squeaked.
Charlie shook his head. "The President would like to see the staff in the back room over there."
Donna pulled away from Josh, squeezing his hands lightly. He guided her through the crowd with a hand on the small of her back.

Donna flopped into Josh's visitor's chair, her dress wrinkled and ringlets drooping. Josh looked up from a memo he was reading, and stared at her for a moment.
"How much longer…Wild Thing?"
Josh grinned. "You're having a lot of fun with that."
"I am. How much-"
"Uh…oh, god, it's 3 already-you can go, I don't think I'm…"
"Did you just now remember how I arrived at the ball."
"You need a ride, huh?"
"I do."
"Do you have your key?"
"My spare."
"I hate to say this, but we need to be back here at 6."
Donna nodded, standing up. "I figured. If I wasn't in a ball gown…"
"You look lovely in that ball gown."
Donna smiled.
He stepped closer. "Your hair…"
"Fell out of the curls."
"But now…" He reached out and ran his fingers through it. "Soft waves…."
Josh closed the remaining distance between them, pausing slightly before kissing her, with such force that they went flying into the door.
After a moment, Donna pulled out of his reach. "Not here."
Josh leaned against the door, sighing. "Theme of the evening."
"Come on. You should change too. Is your suit still here?"
He nodded at the heap in the corner, and she gathered it up.
"You can wear my coat."
Donna smiled, and let him lead her to his car.
They rode in a comfortable silence, toying with each other's hands, till Josh parked in front of her apartment. He looked over at her, questioning.
"Come up for a bit. You don't have time to go home."
He climbed out, and followed her up the stairs.
"Time for some sleep." She held out her hand, and led him into her room.
Donna retreated to the bathroom to change, returning to find Josh sitting on the edge of her bed in his boxers, running his hand through his hair.
"See, you are tired."
He looked up, staring at her intensely for a moment before jumping to his feet and pulling her into his arms. His mouth was on hers in an instant, hot and wet.
"You look…even…more…beautiful."
"In my pajamas?" Donna toyed with the hair at the nape of his neck.
"With my t-shirt on, your hair like that…"
He devoured her mouth again, and propelled her toward the bed, falling on top of her, his fingers in her hair. Donna ran her fingers over his scar, and he hissed.
"Practicing your new trick?" He rolled on his right side, allowing her more access.
"You certainly like it."
"Mmmm…"
Josh ran his finger along the patch of stomach that was revealed when her shirt rode up. Donna moaned, and he took the opportunity to explore further. She pulled him back in for a kiss-and the phone rang.
At the second ring, Donna paused. "Your cell-"
"Fuck it."
"You should answer it." She shimmied over him, and picked it up. "It's 3:30, it's important."
He held her on top of him as he answered it. "Hello?"
"Took you long enough."
"It was buried in my coat."
"Just get in?"
"Yeah."
"I need you back."
"Okay."
"We're getting new intell."
"We'll be there in a half hour."
"We?"
"I had to take Donna home."
"Let the girl sleep."
Donna shook her head.
"She wants to come. We wouldn't have even left if she had a change of clothes."
"All right. Come to my office when you get in."
Josh put down the phone. Donna's head lay on his chest.
"You okay?" he asked, stroking her back.
"Yeah. I should get dressed."
"Yeah…me too…"
They didn't move.
"You sure you don't want to stay and rest?"
"Nah."
"Every time….something always…"
"Maybe it's for the best."
"You really think?"
"No…but we have to, right? We still can't do this?"
"I don't know."
"Yeah…" she kissed him softly on the lips, and climbed off him. "Then that's what we have to think."
