a real post

i think i'm due for a real post, so here goes:

i made the 31 hour drive from CT to NM,  i have a sunburn on the left half of my body to prove it.  the right side of my body was protected by the UV blocker on my windshield, but with AC, all my windows had to be open for me to survive. the move went smoother than i could have imagined.  i used a "relocube" from ABF U-Pack, so i didn't have to have very much of my stuff in my car on the trip.  i brought clothes and stuff and a cooler full of water bottles, energy drinks, and ice.  i must have drank 4 gallons at least over the three days.  it was so hot!  on the second night, i stopped near Tulsa, OK and got stuck without a hotel room because of the PGA tour.  i spend a very uncomfortable night in the back of my car, parked in a 24 hour wal-mart parking lot.  i had to drink a lot of coffee the next morning to keep going.  i finally got to ABQ on the third day at about 7 PM.  i had a room booked at the Motel 6 near campus for two nights.  i was curled up to go to sleep when a huge roach crawled across my back.  gross!  i got the motel staff to switch my room, but i had so much crap to move from one room to the other.  the process woke me up completely, and i ended up in the parking lot chilling with these two native americans,  u was out there until 2AM, which was 4AM CT time.  i guess i was just so overtired, that i got my second wind.  when i got to sleep finally, i slept hard.  it took me three days to find an apartment, so i had to extend my motel stay one night.  it was not big deal in the long run, because i found a great place to live.  it's only a mile or so off campus, and it's really cute.  i have one side of a duplex.  i spend the next couple days painting it (one red wall in the living room and the whole bedroom blue).  then my relocube arrived, and it only took me about 2 hours to empty it out.  my neighbor helped me carry my couch, loveseat, and dresser inside.  everything else i handled.   then i spent the next 2 and half days unpacking.  i'm finally at the point now where everything is unpacked, but i have lots of things "missing".  i have no bed, desk, or entertainment center, and i need more bookcases.  little by little, i will fill in the gaps.

even though i here without sara, things are OK.  i am happy in my new place and am trying to get involved in some things in ABQ.  i found a biking club on campus and will be doing a ride with them tomorrow.  i still have to find some trans support resources.  but the good news on that front is that the student health center will prescribe hormones for me and cover them.  that's exciting.  the director didn't even bat an eyelid when we met about my case.  it was the first time that a health practitioner (not trans specific) refrained from asking inappropriate questions (not medically necessary) about my transition.  she was incredibly respectful.  she even insisted upon treating me for the bite the my new kitten gave me!

i am still lonely right now, but i think i'll start meeting people soon.  so far, people have been really friendly, in general.

i've been on T now for about 5 months, and i'm really starting to notice some changes at this point.  my chin hair is filling in nicely, and some random facial hairs are growing on my cheeks (1 or 2).  the most noticeable change is the increase in muscle mass.  my shoulders have filled out tremendously, and my arms are bulking.  i'm also seeing some very light hair growing on my stomach.  we'll see where that goes!  strangely enough, some part of me misses my monthly visitor.  emotionally, i'm really happy with the transition, so far.  i have none of the angst that accompanied my first transition, five years ago.  i feel calm and in control.  hopefully, i will continue to thrive on T.
