The end of this past workweek ended with a bad mood. My internship is turning out to be much less of an internship than I was expecting. I thought things were improving at the beginning of the week, but Friday proved my thoughts wrong. There are several things I plan to do to change this: Ask for MORE work; Tell my bosses I am being underutilized; Ask if there is another department/office where my efforts would be utilized; Talk more and be more social / Don't treat the office like a college classroom; Ask the intern downstairs how things are going for her.
Wednesday Reggie took me to this conference he was forced to go to about gay pride/rights/etc. We left as soon as we were able to. Thursday I called in after class, but Reggie said I could talk the day off. Friday I read more policies which really don't need alterations. Reggie left around 11:30. Craig, big man boss, told everyone else we could leave early. I left at 3:00.
Tomorrow I am going to try to put together three policies into one. It should not take too long, but my find will need to be focused. After that, I will be able to ask those questions.
Friday evening, I honestly didn't do much. Most people went to Adams-Morgan but clubs there are 21 and up (SIX MORE MONTHS!). Ruel went home this weekend because of his sister's med school graduation...wow. Last night, I went to my first Nationals game with guys from the floor. It was a fun night, and surprisingly affordable. And now, I present to you the reasons why National games are better than Tiger games:
10) Stadium subway station = No parking cost.
9) Fans wear team colors.
8) There is no ferris wheel or carousel (go to a baseball game for the damn game!).
7) Outside peanut/memorabilia vendors. Tigers' move marked the end of this in Detroit.
6) Less ushers = move up to better and greater seats!
5) 40,000 in attendance. Small CoPa sells out maybe 10-15 times a year.
4) I will be able to say I was part of the Nationals inaugural season.
3) The beer man doesn't check I.D.'s. I bought my first beer in the US at RFK Stadium...first two...Coors Light.
2) The wave. Copa's lack of seats in the outfield prevents this.
1) They are in first place!
Reasons why I still love the Tigers:
-CoPa is downtown.
-Some of my first and best memories are going to the game.
-The crowd is younger.
-Although they lose, many fans remain true.
-Hands down, the best cap in baseball.
-It's my freaking hometown team!
