Thanks to Lou... a meme for Christmas

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Took josh on a proper holiday; overseas, staying in hotels (as apposed to family), lots of shopping and sight seeing

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year: to stop swearing in normal conversation. I was going well until I got a job working with someone with a potty mouth in March
This year: to stop swearing in normal conversation. Relapse is common with strong addictions :-P

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes. My direct co-worker. Little Callum is now 10 days old.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
Indonesia. David and I took Josh to Bali. Best holiday I have ever had.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Stability; a plan for the future. It doesnt look likely though.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
10March - The day I started my fateful job at Arafmi. I remember coz it was joshs birthday. I was so happy.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Maintaining my belief in myself in teh face of a negative environment and/or circumstances

9. What was your biggest failure?
Allowing my ego and fears let me have a massive domestic with joshs dad, part of which took place at Joshs football game

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope. No flu, no bali belly, no injuries. as per normal :-)

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Private indemnity insurance - so I can practice privately

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
David - this year he has amazed me with his ability to risk in order to become a better person or let people closer to him. Scary stuff.
Josh also. He again attended the wedding of one of his parents (his dad this time) and made everyone proud. And just generally, apart from his hormonal outbursts, his maturity amazes me.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My boss from Arafmi - he has systemically destroyed a really good thing and abused epople (myself included) along the way. So so sad.

14. Where did most of your money go?
The dentist! I had a root canal which took many many visits. I really should have invested in private health insurance before starting that journey. Lesson learnt!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Professional development - I get so excited about my work

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
The new song by Tame Impala, a new young (like 15-16 year olds) Perth indi band. they are going to be big, Wolfmother big. You wait. We saw them live and they blew me away.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? an eensie bit fatter
iii. richer or poorer? about the ironically. We have become richer and gone back to where we were. its temporary.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
sleeping

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
driving (it was work related)

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
 Its our year with josh for the day (YAY!). Mum is coming up from Mandurah and we will all be going to Davids sisters for lunch.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
David and I went to a new level, so yes. And I fell in love with my work. At times 2008 felt like a love fest.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Two and half men has had a resurgance. I didnt watch much though.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate? its too strong a word.

24. What was the best book you read?
Whoa, read some beauties this year. 'Tipping the Velvet' and  'The Night Watch' by Sarah Waters were the stand out fiction. Read a lot of non-fiction too, all relating to counselling children

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Tame Impala

26. What did you want and get?
our family holiday - not just to have the holiday, but for it to go well. Wishes do some true! :-)

27. What did you want and not get?
job security

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Juno. Was that this year? I didnt enjoy Atonement or that other one with Keira Knightly and Sienna Miller, apparently both great movies

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
34. I had a kids biryhday party with fairy floss and jelly cups and party games and pinata' and take home party bags.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having Jane home

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Blonde hair. it was the year I tried blonde hair. i didnt have more fun!

32. What kept you sane?
Friends - I love you guys XXX

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Mr Guy-walking-down-the-street was much more appealling this year.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
The US election, esp having an American staying with us for 2 months

35. Who did you miss?
I missed David a lot as we were both working and crazy busy for a while there. And Jane of course. It really would be lovely to be unemployed together!

36. Who was the best new person you met?
So many great people met through work. There was lee at Mercy, and then from Arafmi there was jodi, David H (who beleived in me so strongly and said so often),  Tanya and Nerrida; and jo from Red Cross. Its been an abundant year

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
When you throw a party, dont expect to enjoy it.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"Fuck you, Fuck you very much. I dont like your crew and I dont like what you do, so please dont keep in touch" - aimed at Arafmi powers that be.
