i'm back in ithaca and i just wanted to let you know
that there is no band like talk talk.
and i mean ed-of-the-band's-tenure-when-they-started-experimenting-talk-talk
albums = spirit of eden, laughing stock.
holy shit.
i've had laughing stock for a while, but just downloaded spirit of eden.
i love this band.
the composition, the atmosphere, the tonality, the mood, the coloring.
i only want to make music that works like this.
not specifically sounds like it, per se, but works like it.
organic and evolving and whole.
in other news, it's good to be back, although break was fantastic.
i guess i'm still on break, technically, but just working while school is out.
a labmate (in the loosest sense, she's not really been here at all, she already has a job at notre dame and just had a baby) just defended her thesis today. it's got me thinking about the whole process of grad school and how equally i can't wait to be done and don't want to skip through all of it too quickly.
working out thesis ideas is coming along, slowly but surely.
a new post-doc arrived int he lab today.
he's got similar interests to mine, which is cool, i smell interesting collaborations.
and he's got bitching facial hair.
as in rivaling chester arthur for awesomeness.

i've got resolutions, kinda?
--perhaps involving having a date at some point
--and chilling back a bit about work, i know it's important, but i have a life outside of it, as well. that's what the break taught me. i enjoy my friends and family and watching sports, and reading things for fun. and sleeping.
i need to get over this sinus infection, sleep would be a good idea!
i also need to heal my foot--hopefully this ultrasound treatment should work, i don't wanna go in 3 times a week for a month, and have it not work...
