this weekend was an interesting one, to say the least.
i think i mentioned this before, but we had a pig roast last night.
which also involved the night before, as it has to cook in the ground for ~12 hours.
but friday night started right after work.
and was active.
with a trip to buffalo wild wings to watch the fsu women's soccer team lose a tough match in the semis of the final 4.
then to momo's (ok pizza) for a quick bite.
then back here and hanging out and killing some time.
then killing more time at a pretty skeezy pool hall/bar (although i now have a new beer mug).
then back here to start the roasting.
it is a process with hole digging, fire starting, rock heating, pig wrapping, burying, etc.
and i took no part in it.
hey, if i'm not gonna eat it, i'm not gonna cook it.
i just sat and drank.
and watched others do work.
and then passed out (3 was late enough for me).
so, no i didn't actually see it get buried.
sleeping things off for the first half of saturday was following by an afternoon of weighing insects (so much fun, i swear).
then party prep.
and festivities starting around 7.
i actually was inside for a while (hanging out with the twins in my room and on the phone with a certain someone who turned 22 today).
but i was outside for a while, mingling and eating and whatters.
and i ran out of gas around 2:30 or 3 again (i think that's when it was).
don't get me wrong, i had a good time (for the most part, although somehow, i can't shake a general shitty feeling about this weekend, it's really odd, and i don't like it. i hope it's gone in the morning, but i doubt it will be).
but after ~2, the house and yard contained only people i did not know.
and the two later phone calls i made didn't result in a conversation.
so, there wasn't much motivation to stay up.
so i didn't.
there was a fair bit of time devoted to clean-up today.
and another trip to work (only for ~hour though).
and other sunday things (including listening to a disgusting bears win).
and that's how the weekend resulted.
i'm glad i took friday morning off from work.
i got the ucsb application turned in (only berkeley left! i still haven't heard back about the gre issue though...).
and ran some party errands.
i wish i had gotten to relax a little more, but oh well.
i've got a more relaxed work schedule coming up, so even if i don't take time off, i shouldn't be working extra.
more time to do things i like?
i can't wait to have my nice long break for the holidays, too.
those four day breaks are killer, too much travel time and wanting to cram tons into a weekend.
it makes the break more stressful.
interestingly, i worked 46 hours last week, but only worked >8 hrs on one day.
but when you work all 7 days...
yay for experiments with living organisms.
i was actually gone on thursday for over 11 hours i think.
but i was at the dr's office for 1.5 and in class for 1.75.
speaking of the dr's office.
my foot is still a bit discolored from the cortisone injection.
but yeah, the dr thinks (and i agree) that it's gotten better but plateaued a bit.
so another shot and we'll revisit in 4-6 weeks, if necessary.
no cutting it open! hooray!
so, here's the picture of the week.
i think there's a bizzaro julia down here.
i saw her the other day in the bio building.
and thought she looked too similar.
but then, she was at my house last night for the party.
i must keep her from ever meeting real julia.
for the sake of the universe.
i had to snap this quickly, in the dark, so pardon the poor quality.
comments?
and while i'm at it, here's jose the cat.
for those of you interested in what he looks like.
quite the cutie.
and playful, which is nice.
a dog in a cat's body?
i feel like there's something else i should be talking about.
but i can't remember.
i'm stumped.
so that's that.
