my sister's second daughter was born today.
faith johanna sobyra.
of course i'm gonna put up a picture.
that's the joy of the internet.

faith and her proud older sister.
everyone is doing fantastic, which is awesome.
healthy baby and mom are good things.
the hilarious thing about all of this, is that my parents had tickets to a concert tonight.
and not just any concert.
c.
s.
n.
and y.
all together for the first time in a long, long while.
(crazy, no?)
well, my dad did end up going (the baby came at 1 in the afternoon, the concert was at night), and took his buddy (my mom stayed at the hospital), but that's still really funny.
especially since he had kept saying: any day is fine, just not sunday.
so, yeah, that's the big news.
but this weekend was full of other things, as well.
at the end of the day on friday, we had (in lieu of the regular weekly seminar) a welcome gathering for the biology department, which was nice.
that evening, there was a cocktail party/reception thing for a visiting prof, bob warner (kinda a big deal in marine ecology and evolution), who will be here for a good chunk of this semester to teach a class.
it was kinda nice, did some hobnobbing and whatnot.
saturday, i spent a good chunk of the day working on learning r, a stats program (freeware version of s) we're using in the class i'm taking.
which should be a good class.
r's pretty cool, i think i'm getting the hang of it.
later, we had a bbq for the lab group at brian and nora's house.
another good get together, this one much smaller.
it was odd though, because after coming back from both events, it wasn't very late (between 10 and 11, i believe), but that was it for the night.
nate and joe are outta town, so i was just hanging out here by myself with kitty (who's learned how to jump over my fan, which now means i have to keep my door closed, which sucks since it gets crazy warm in here).
talking with adam on the interweb made me realize how much i miss having outside of work friends.
and also rob.
being alone at night really kinda sucks.
(our anniversary is on thursday, by the way)
but yeah, today involved going in to work for a few hours to deal with caterpillars.
then getting the call about faith, and talking to a super excited new older sister named abby.
then watching sunday tv: antitrust.
what a horrible movie.
but yeah, regular sunday things later, and here i am again.
i've got tomorrow off, since it is, well, labor day.
and i am a laborer now.
but i'm going to try and get some good work done on grad school and fellowship stuff.
that's what i tell myslf now, at least.
i do need to get cracking on this.
and i wanna read more. i love reading.
great news: i finally got paid for all of the summer.
yeesh, that took forever.
and i'm going home soon!!
18 days!!
wooooo.
