Okay, I'll post

ribbin Posted saying that livejournal will only work if we post on it, so here I am, posting.

The first, and most important thing is that I can walk. On thursday I took a fall at work that could have ended rather badly. I fell off of an 8 foot stepladder onto my back. Luckily I fell flat onto wood floor with nothing under me. Luckily my co-worker and I kept our work area anally clean (unlike some other co workers) so I didn't fall on any 2X4 scraps or nails or other junk. I also missed the plank I had just stepped off of with my head and I landed only inches from my (glass) water bottle. The worst I got from it was a small amount of sore spots along my lower back. Sheesh, thank god, and I do mean thank the highest deity that nothing worse happened.

Also good news is that I finally have a real shop:

This afternoon, I felt like my first child was born. I've been waiting for a real shop for 4 years. It's in a barn basement so it's mostly got a dirt floor. Luckily it's a walk out basement though, so two sides are at ground level, with big windows. The shop area is maybe 24 foot by 24 foot. It's already got one rough floor, maybe 12 by 10 feet, and I extended it with a level plywood floor by another 8X12 feet. So now nick (the shop mate) has a floor, and i have one. It's enough to put my workbench on, store my tools off the floor, and have space to walk around. The power tools are in the back, on the dirt. Nick and I plan to clear more space in the back and make the power tool area more accessible. Maybe we'll put a bench for metalwork back there too. But for now I have a better shop than I've ever had, with almost enough outlets, places to put things in an orderly fashion, and windows. And enough space to stretch! As a special bonus, already in the shop are two pottery kickwheels. When I have things more under control here I'll get going on those too.
It's not insulated or heated, but we'll think about that when it gets cold.

The only downside is that Sweetie is not here. But she's having fun teaching fiddle and then on monday she'll ship out on the Lewis R French
in Maine. And she'll be back by november, but until then I just have to play in the shop more.
