Rejected Baby Names

Jul 10, 2013 20:25

For each of the three kids my wife and I have had, we also had a name picked out if the baby were the opposite gender. Here's what they were and why.

First born: Girl's name would have been Molly... It's a variation on Mary, so it honored my mother, C's mom's middle name, and fit C's "needs to be saint" rule (So many Mary variations in Catholicism).I don't remember us having a middle name picked out, but C might. It didn't make it to the second round because C ended up meeting someone with the name that rubbed her the wrong way.

Second born: Boy's name would have been Solomon James. Solomon for the mostly wise biblical king (though he had his weaknesses) and soul singer Solomon Burke. James for C's grandfather, who was an awesome human being. Then, we started running into a bunch of Solomon kids in the neighborhood.

Third born: (born Tuesday) Boy's name would have been Atticus James. Named after Atticus Finch (and a saint). We're not planning on having anymore kids ::knock on wood:: so it's gone now. We were a bit nervous because a prominent local politician who lives in the neighborhood has a son named Atticus.
